Birthdays

A collection of haiku. I'm 31 today.

Each celebration,

Of the life we are living,

Changes every year.

Beginning with joy,

Awaiting delivery,

Welcome to the world.

A small child blooming,

Excited to celebrate,

With presents and cake.

Teenage years frustrate,

Independence ahead but,

Still confined by rules.

Finally grown up,

Time to enjoy our freedom,

Drink, smoke, bad choices.

Twenties fly by quick,

Collecting new memories,

Birthdays still excite.

Thirty looms closer,

Life expectations ingrained,

What have I achieved?

Success surrounds me,

And yet there's something missing,

The thing I want most.

Thirty one arrives,

Still waiting for goals and dreams,

With glimmers of hope.

Happy birthday me,

This year be kind to yourself,

Be ready for joy.
