Benediction or Banishment
A Choose Your Own Adventure Poem (Kind of)
Overwhelming urges
are titrated messages vacuum-sealed in hygienic conditions
more than likely
whilst attentions were focused on some priority
that superseded bodily functions
Or
they are stifled desires with no fixed abode
in expansion according to Avogadro’s Law
cubic meter claimants
of every available space near pre-explosion levels
thus no small wonder you feel pressure
Or
they might be dream-waves we felt as children
that were never silly nonsense
but actually distilled cosmic brilliance
elliptical philosophies
in square curriculums
that patted us on the head
to leave comments like,
“Oh, how nice/lovely/sweet”
eliciting reactions that got us stern looks
detention
the principal’s office
Or
they could be a final plea for help
when remaining avenues of communication failed
an unwelcome slap in the face
to sting you away from sameness stupor
and silent slips into senility
with no lighted exits
Please don’t go that way
Freeze and you’ll never be okay
But sure
maybe you’ll be an anomaly
the exception to the rule
the epitome of blatant disregard
for any impulses inside
fulfilled by predictable interests
with pre-set outcomes
parameters with no margin for error
people you’ve only always known
safe from fiery passions
and messy overwhelming urges
to CPR crash cart against your routines
fine with an ordinary life
and pleased as punch about it
You could be alright
It’s been known to happen
To be ordinary
doesn’t take much in the way of effort
The reason why countless people do it
and are good at it
So pleased you dropped by for a read! Did you choose? Happy about it? That's all that matters.

Nice one!!
The cadence kept pace with the undercurrent so well in this. That constant nagging of playing it safe whispers to the best of us. Well done!
I loved this. Your use of language is masterful and spot on. Deeply thought provoking. Congrats on the well deserved Top Story.
Nice work ❤️😗 Just joined haven’t really got to know how people like my stories 😏
As usual. It's brilliant, soul-speaker! I have never been good at being average in anything. Either extraordinary (usually at things that don't matter) or extraordinarily UN-extraordinary :D So many times I've wished to be average. I really loved this one. "Elliptical philosophies in square curriculums..." Freaking genius!
I like the idea of this. Overwhelming urges guiding us to a more extraordinary life and exerting an influence on us that we can take advantage of or resist. I like the chemistry terminology throughout. There's a philosophical and worldly feel to this and like the world is in flux. It's got me thinking - can you tell?! Congrats on TS!
Congrats!
wow good congratulations 🎊🎉
Amazing!!! Loved it!!! Congratulations too!!!💕❤️❤️
I love this!! It's eye opening and insightful!! I can see why you're getting recognition for this story!! Great work and congrats on Top Story!!
You are such a smart and powerful writer. Thank you for teaching me about Avogadro's Law (mama taught me to look up the new words as I read) https://www.britannica.com/science/Avogadros-law
Congratulations on a Cool Top Story🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

Excellent piece. Congrats on the TS.
You really have a way with words. Wonderful!
Your writing is deep . Love it
A lot to ponder here and learn from. Extraordinary writing as always!!!
As Pippin continues to say in the musical of the same name, "When you're extra-ordinary, you've got to do extra-ordinary things." To be & do them & find yourself content, that's the wonder of it all.
This was lovely! You are no ordinary writer. Personally, I would rather stick my neck out and risk it all.
I really loved the concept of this, where you gave us multiple choices. But what intrigued me the most was the Avogadro's Law! I have never heard of that before. So I Googled it and realised it comes under Chemistry. But my syllabus never had that. Thank to you, I learned something new today!
Very nicely outlined, covering the full gamut. I liked this a lot!
