I believed in the laws of physics before I met you

before sixty minutes started being twenty

before two and a half hours in the palm of your hand

didn't pass at all, just wasn't there.

I believed in my own ability to do the right thing

before you were the wrong thing and oh,

it's easy to do the right thing when the wrong thing

isn't everything you ever wanted,

I believed in no Gods before I worshipped you

and the only poems that longed the way I longed

were Mira Bai's paeans to Lord Krishna

and David's psalms of pleading with his God.
