Awkward
An Objection to Smoothness
When did awkward become anathema?
The cult of smooth has not always reigned thus;
Long ago, gauche moves made no agita
Often, they showed that spirits were with us
The odd gait or strange speech of a madman
Betokened wisdom holy, insight rare
What we cannot see, wild or blind eyes can
Thus were the weird treated with special care
Peculiar fell out with its friend, sacred
Now, the touched are diagnosed and treated
Drugged or bound, even incarcerated
Cryptic revelations aren't repeated
To change the game, you have to miss the mark
Smooth out the awkwardness and strike no spark

Oh how often I have pondered this very thing! I find it very interesting how we went from venerating those touched by the gods to wanting to drug them into silence. It seems very telling of a cultural shift, one that disparages anything nearing a higher power. I wish I could see just how they used to do it, so we could bring it back again. I particularly enjoyed this part: "Peculiar fell out with its friend, sacred Now, the touched are diagnosed and treated Drugged or bound, even incarcerated Cryptic revelations aren't repeated" Smooth certainly seems to be the villain here, and in your work of late. I can't say I disagree. Texture is what makes everything interesting and worth living. You can't exactly get a grip if the surface is slippery, eh?
. Another great poem
To Smooth or not to Smooth, that is the question. So being smooth in not being smooth. SMOOTH!
You have nailed it here! Excellent!
To change the game, you have to miss the mark. That line was so profound. Loved your poem!
