A Father’s Gift

And the Gratitude It Deserves

By Lily SéjorPublished 3 months ago 1 min read

Elusive smiles would grace then swiftly desert your face

Changing moods — up/down, here/gone, mostly gone

Lucky,

I confess, because the downs would get really down

Papa, thank you for leaving

Sincerely

Ending things is a gift and this one was your best

What a unique take on this, and on the purpose and value of a father to a child.

This is powerful. It creates a lot of mixed feelings; a wide range of emotions, in just a few words.

Not all fathers are created equal. Mine was a mess, but so are we all in some way or the other. So may faults we do not know to be illnesses undiagnosed, we can only hope for the best.
