A dicussion of Vanity

The instructor brought in a painting
& hung it upon the wall
As we sat in the Art History hall
Seeing a lady looking in the mirror
He told us to see the whole perspective
Reveiling something to fear
A silloutte of a Skull with a hollow face
Where inside sits a lady,
A Cameo etched in lace
What lesson does it teach?
The class did ask
He answered, Vanity
Worn as an ink blotted mask
Up close it looks lovely,
Yet as one pulls away,
It turns into a monster
As the world shifts,
From night to day
It remined me of an Escher drawing,
Or a dream of Edgar Poe
Two hands drawing each other
With the caw-ing of a crow
Class was dissmissed
While going up & down
A staircase loop
Feeling as if they were served
A course of Ghostly Egotistical Soup!
