A father's love for his daughter
Is a bond that's hard to measure
It's a love that's pure and true
And lasts a lifetime through
From the moment she's born
He's there to keep her warm
To hold her tiny hand
And guide her through life's sands
He watches her grow and bloom
And sees her conquer every gloom
With every step she takes
His heart overflows and breaks
He's her cheerleader and supporter
Her rock and her comforter
He's there to wipe her tears
And chase away all her fears
Their love is one of a kind
A bond that's hard to find
It's a love that's unconditional
And unbreakable, even in turmoil
Through all the ups and downs
Their love never wears a frown
For a father's love for his daughter
Is a bond beyond measure, forever and after

Hannah Moore is a first-time grand prize winner with her dialogue poem, On Receipt of Bad News. This was a poem that genuinely engaged both with the exchange of our prompt, but also focussed on the way poetic rhythms of language could support the writer's conceit. It felt very truthful, too, the way one speaker wishes to ignore the news and focus on practicalities; there was a quiet heartbreak, here. Well done.
