Animals with the most powerful bites in the natural world

1. African crocodile (bite force 2.6 million kg/m2)

With a terrifying bite force of up to 2.6 million kg/m2, the African crocodile is ranked at the top of the list of animals with the most powerful bites.

It is also the largest living reptile on Earth, with some African crocodiles reaching up to 6m long and weighing more than 1 ton.

Crocodiles are relatively lazy animals, but they can tear apart large prey such as cows, buffalo, sharks and humans in a moment.

2. American crocodile (1.5 million kg/m2)

The state of Florida, USA is considered the capital of the world of American crocodiles. This reptile has the second most powerful bite on the planet.

The American alligator has no natural predators. Its preferred diet includes fish, birds, turtles, and dogs or deer. It is not generally aggressive towards humans, but some alligator attacks have occurred.

3. Hippo (1.28 million kg/m2)

Hippos are arguably the most dangerous animals in Africa and a top contender for the title of most dangerous animal in the world. They may look goofy and clumsy, but everything about hippos is terrifying.

Weighing in at around 2 tonnes, the hippopotamus is one of the world's largest mammals . Despite its relatively heavy build, hippos can run at speeds of nearly 50 km/h.

Their mouths are very powerful with a bite force of up to 1.28 million kg/m2. Hippos are not carnivores, but they do occasionally attack humans.

4. American jaguar (950,000 kg/m2)

The American jaguar surpasses both lions and tigers to rank 4th on the list of animals with the most powerful bite on the planet.

While other cats take down their prey by biting and suffocating them, jaguars deliver a powerful bite straight to the head, killing their prey quickly. Occasionally, jaguars also hunt turtles because they enjoy the thrill of breaking through their prey's thick shells.

5. Gorilla (913,000 kg/m2)

Gorillas are the largest members of our primate family . They have muscular arms and extremely powerful teeth that can bite with a force of up to 913,000 kg/m2. Gorillas are very gentle and shy when faced with humans. However, they are very aggressive when fighting and often fight to the death.

6. Hyenas (773,000 kg/m2)

Hyenas are considered timid scavengers, but they spend most of their time hunting and killing their prey.

Considered to have one of the most powerful bites of any mammal on Earth, hyenas can chase lions away to fight over their prey. They often use their extremely strong teeth to chew the bones of their prey. Hyenas also attack humans if they invade their territory.

7. Tiger (738,000 kg/m2)

Among the felines, tigers are the most feared animals to humans. They are the largest of the felines and have a bite force of up to 738,000 kg/m2, almost twice that of a lion.

That may be why lions usually hunt in prides, while tigers hunt alone. Tiger attacks on humans are most common in India and some other Asian countries, where they often live near human settlements.

8. Crocodile hybrid turtle (703,000 kg/m2)

If normal turtles are very gentle and harmless, then alligator snapping turtles are a danger to humans because they often attack and bite the toes and fingers of swimmers underwater.

Despite being the smallest member of this list, the snapping turtle's bite is powerful enough to easily sever a finger bone.

9. Bear (685,000 kg/m2)

A bear's bite force of up to 685,000 kg/m2 can easily break a bowling ball. Cases of bears attacking humans are not uncommon.

If you plan to hike or camp in areas where bears live, you need to know how to handle these dangerous animals. Bears only attack humans when they perceive you as a threat to their territory and food.

10. Lion (457,000 kg/m2)

The lion may be known as the king of the jungle , but it is not and lord of this list.

With a bite force of 457,000 kg/m2, the lion's bite is relatively weak compared to other cat species. When attacking wildebeest or buffalo, the lion uses its jaws to clamp down on the victim's throat, causing them to suffocate.

Only when the prey dies of suffocation can the lion eat the prey. Although the lion's bite force is relatively weak, it is still 6 times stronger than that of humans. Moreover, the strength of the molars is only part of the lion's weapon.

11. Great White Shark (493,000 kg/m2)

You might be surprised to see the great white shark ranked so low on the list of animals with the most powerful bites on the planet, as the oceanic killer is terrifying to many.

Even if you’re not afraid of sharks, coming face to face with a great white while scuba diving is the last thing you want to do. The danger of a great white shark lies in its razor-sharp teeth. With little force, they can slice you like a butter knife.

12. Dogs (228,000 kg/m2)

Dogs may be man's best friend, but they go berserk when it comes to attacking humans.

Millions of Americans are bitten by dogs each year, and some of these victims d
