True Passion

follow your dreams

By Jeremy WhitePublished 3 years ago 3 min read

How do you find your true passion? It took me a long time to realize what mine was. I have always been good at writing. The one catch was I could not write poems. No matter how hard I tried I couldn't write them. Then one day something just clicked. I finally figured out how to write them. I don't have a traditional style. I have my own style of writing.

I wrote some when I was younger. One of them was even published. At this point I didn't know it was my passion. I think this is because I wrote like ten poems and then stopped for a long time. I wish I would have been writing them when I was a teenager and young adult. I went through a lot during those years.

I have no idea what made me start back writing. It may have been my moms death. I needed an outlet for what I was feeling. I have not stopped writing since. I can only write when it is really personal or I am really into the subject or person.

Over the past 6 years I have come to realize that writing is my true passion. Writing poems is how I get my feelings out and how I learn about myself and the world. I have wrote maybe 70 poems over the last 6 years. I know that is not a lot but there has been periods where I just could not write.

I did get a poetry book published in that time. That was a dream come true. I have come to realize that my words have power. I want to help people. Whether they are happy or sad my words have power.

I hope people can find there true passion and not be afraid to share it with the world. That was my problem at first. Even though I had published one poem before it wasn't about me. To publish a book that is all about yourself and what you have been through is really scary.

The other part is self promotion. I am no good at it. I am still learning on how to get my work out there and to spread the word. It takes a lot of time and effort to put yourself out there. It is so worth it in the end.

I have written some poems that will probably never see the light of day. They are just way to personal. That is perfectly ok. You can have things that are just for you. If you aren't ready to share your passion with others that is fine. It is also ok if you are not good at your passion as long it makes you happy. You may become good at it overtime.

It is also ok to have more than one passion. I have other things that I like to do that I am hoping one day will turn into a passion. I like photography. I bought a camera and have been taking pictures. I hope one day to be able to sell some of them.

There are other things that I am just interested in. I want to learn the piano. I want to be able to write something besides poems. I would like to learn sign language. I have always had an interest in art.

I think people are drawn to my work because it is real. It is my personal experience that I write so that it appeals to a wide audience. I think people should explore their passions. You might fail a lot but that is ok. If it is your passion you will keep doing it.
