It's Time To Stop Sleeping On Your Dreams

and to start taking them very- very- seriously.

It might sound somewhat convoluted but that's my motto for 2022, and, forever, or, at least for as long as it takes for it to click that my dreams are not just something I get to think about at night.

Most of us believe in intuition- Normally this is exemplified by a feeling we get in the pit of our stomach when there's something in our life that needs attention or action. We accept it scientifically, as a survival skill, and often act just based on these gut feelings.

Many believe in signs from the universe- This can be anything from angel numbers, butterflies, hummingbirds, or weather to songs on the radio, or specific phrases- all thought to be sent as messages that we should continue on our path, that we are protected, or that we need to make a change.

We even trust the judgment of animals- Despite not actually knowing much about what is going on inside of their heads, we let them sleep in our beds, and see us at our most vulnerable, and - let's be honest - if our pet doesn't approve of someone in our lives we're probably not going to keep them around much longer.

Humans are prepared to believe in so many things that we do not completely understand...

And yet, for the most part, we have as a species sseemingly accepted that our dreams - the most honest and unaffected conversations we are able to have with ourselves - are just a bunch of brain mumbo-jumbo- leaving them to be all but forgotten, and certainly not taken seriously.

However, these lyrics from Stephen Shwartz' Pippin ring true as ever-

"People like the way dreams have of sticking to their soul"

Maybe we haven't reached the point where we can all accept our dreams as possible outcomes yet, but they do become a part of us- whether we like it or not.

Our dreams are our unspoken, or spoken, desires trying desperately to be met.

A dream is a call to action.

"But, what if my dreams are just too big?"

Okay, let's say our dream is world peace...

We dream of a world where people are truly treated as equals. We dream of an air of respect and best wishes that is outstretched to all walks of life. Our biggest wish is that we achieve a world that works for everyone, one that supports the independent wants and needs of all individuals in all walks of life. Yes, this includes those who have made mistakes. Yes, this includes those will mental illness. Yes, this includes those who have never known financial hardship as well as those who have never known stability or safety. Yes this includes those who choose to live differently from us. We dream of a world that allows us each to be our best selves, our chosen selves, because we believe that cared for individuals are the key to a healthy happy, and cared for planet.

That's a pretty big dream.

It may even sound impossible- but- there are so many possible actions that can be taken on the way to this supposed "impossible" goal that we simply refuse to believe it won't be achieved.

Instead we are focusing on every single thing we can do and making all of those things action items.

We treat it the dream as an end goal, make a plan, and take the necessary steps toward achieving it.

Because my waking life has shown me over and over that impossible is just a term for something that hasn't happened yet, and impossible things are happening every moment of every day.

And we have the power to alter our reality in remarkable ways, because-

"What is reality except for the things that people universally experience the same way"- Hank Green, An Absolutely Remarkable Thing

And, I'm going to let my "Disney- girl" side show for a moment, but, please don't let that stop you from taking me seriously .

"A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes"

So, listen to your heart. No dream is too big.

Start small.

Start now.
