What are dreams but figments of the imagination? They are the fragmented thoughts of daydreams scattered about in our heads.

Can we make these dreams a reality? Can we have the life we want if we try hard enough, or are they just reserved for the chosen few and the lucky?

I believe we can make our dreams come true. What separates the achievers from the failures and the happy from the sad is persistence and discipline.

We need the persistence to keep on going when the high-like burst of motivation from starting something new runs its course. We need persistence to keep forging our path in life when it feels like it’s falling apart.

We’re always just one choice away from a different life, a different us. The micro-choices we make day in and day out are the water to the seed we call life. That water can help us grow into a flourishing bouquet, or it can be the pesticide that poisons us, leaving apathy and destruction in its path.

How can we make these micro-choices day in and day out? How can we become that garden of flowers?

To do that, we need discipline. Discipline is the foundation of everything that glitters and gleams in life. It’s what makes people shine and become stars, and unfortunately, it’s the most underestimated trait we possess.

We look at the geniuses in life, the Mozarts, the Einsteins, and the Michael Jordans, and say we can never be like them. They were born great, their geniuses handpicked by God.

What we fail to see is the thousands upon thousands of hours they put into their craft, and the many failures they faced before they reached greatness.

While we were lazing around, binging on Netflix or playing the latest game, they were honing their craft.

That’s why they say success is lonely and nothing worth having in life is easy. We need to make sacrifices to achieve our dreams and to be happy.

We may not make as big of an impact as them, but with these sacrifices, we can change at least one person’s life, and isn’t that what matters?

To be that role model to our children or be that supportive friend so, in turn, they have the opportunity to follow their dreams come true and make an impact on someone too.

If everyone in this world can change just one person’s life for the better, then this world would become a better place.

So, in turn, my dear reader, I want you to ask yourself. What do you want out of life? Do you want to change yourself so you can do your part in changing the world? Do you want to be happy and have a fulfilled life?

If your answer to those questions is no, that’s completely up to you. You can squander this precious gift we call life. You can stagnate and wallow in apathy and destruction. It’s your choice after all.

All I ask of you is don’t whine and complain when your life is fruitless. Don’t undermine others’ greatness by saying it’s luck and talent. Don’t complain about how your life was hard, your family was broken, or your classmates were tyrants.

We’ve all had a hard life one way or another. It’s how we react to it that makes us great. If your life isn’t where you want it to be right now, I’m sorry to tell you it’s probably your fault. No one held you at gunpoint to take that pill or drink yourself into a stupor. It was you yourself who made that choice.

Your life right now is the result of the compound interest of the decisions you’ve made.

Just know we all have our unfair advantages in life and our own unique perspective and outlook, and it’s never too late to live the life of our dreams.
