5 Books That Will Make You Feel More Empowered

Boost your confidence, wisdom and knowledge with these power reads

Welcome back to the blog! Today? Let's chat wisdom.

Always providing spiritual wisdom on my podcast (click here) but this is actually a serious book club. Like, tribal tattoos only or no entry.

Guys, come on in, I'm obviously joking about the tats. (hides tattoo)

Anyways. Would it be my blog, if I didn't joke around for 15 minutes? Grab your martini, I'll meet you in the Philosophy section.

A proper book club requires a proper beverage. (swirls martini)

To get started: "Reading is to the mind, as exercise is to the body, as yoga is to your ego, the ocean is to your soul, and a baby (anything) is to your heart." (crickets) Pretty sure I quoted that right - but the point is you have to read to open up and expand all areas of your life.

Let me ask you a question, do you exercise? You're like, no. So- okay, fair. But, do you TRY to exercise? Yes, you do. I do, too. No one said we had to be good at it. And, you DO TRY to do that...because....

Exactly! You want to be healthier. Otherwise, why even attempt the butterfly swim at your company cookout?

True story for another time. (turns page)

All I'm saying is no one ever took a step back in life after reading. It only got better.

Actually, maybe it didn't get better for that one guy that read those specially sealed documents and leaked them to the public, but, other than that, for the most part, reading is pretty helpful as long as it's not top secret and then shared among your fellow classmates.

Despite what anyone says: knowledge is true power and you can only go as far as you know, so I'm sharing my power books for 2020 to help you get excited and motivated for the next quarter ahead!

#1: A New Earth : Eckhart Tolle

Read it. Read it again. Read it when you forget. Keep reading it.

My copy is literally "non-borrow-able" like, it's traveled through dust and time more than Harry Potter, but this book is my ultimate "peace" book.

This is the book I read to remember my conscious state of reality and it works every time. If you are struggling with your ego and looking for peace of mind, I would highly recommend this book.

#2: The Power: Rhonda Byrnes

You've probably heard of The Secret - but if not, it's basically a book (followed by a documentary) that explains how to apply the Law of Attraction to enhance all areas your life.

The documentary is actually on Netflix, if you wanted to check it out tonight.

Both the book and the DVD are packed with a ton of great information but you definitely need the second book ' The Power ' to really understand how "The Secret" really works.

This book: "The Power" touches on two crucial points that "The Secret" missed which is: The Power of Energy and The Power of Love. ( Queue any Celine Dion love song)

Okay, now that everyone is crying thinking about Titanic (so much room on that door for Jack) let's move on.

#3: The Voice Of Knowledge | Don Miguel Ruiz

This one is all about taking your personal power back and reminding you that you are not the stories you come up with or the voices and thoughts that sometimes pop into your head.

It's true, whether we identify with our mind or detach from it completely, our ego loves to talk smack to us if we aren't aware that it is simply, just a story and you don't have to identify with it.

So, if you're struggling with negative thoughts, give this book a try.

#4. The Magic | Rhonda Byrnes

This book is more like a 30 day challenge, if you're up for that.

Basically, after each passage you read, there is a daily lesson followed by a task that you carry out throughout your entire day.

For example: One of the lessons involves carrying a picture of someone you care about and every time you see it -you "send" that person love and kind thoughts for the day.

Within 12 days, you will notice a shift in your life and that's because you've created a shift in your actions. I can tell you from experience there is something very magical about these exercises. If anything, it is a great way to get your mind back on a positive track and begin to feel grateful again.

I completed this last month- so you can actually find all the daily exercises from that book on my Instagram: @chelsea.swift (there's a dot there) under my saved story called "gratitude".

#5. The Science of The Mind | By: Ernest Holmes

I mean, it's five hundred and something pages so this might take me all year- I'm kidding! It's simple math, if I can read 25 pages a day for 30 days, I'm onto another book so I wanted to open with this because you shouldn't let big books scare you.

Just set a page number a day (example: 10 pages) and you will easily whip through your book list this year; this particular book had been on my shelf for awhile because of how big it is and I am proud to say that I have finally completed it. Queue my reaction after finishing a great book:

This particular book is all about entering into a new state of mind to increase happiness, health and wealth by adapting simple universal principals. Ernest Holmes is a highly respected spiritual teacher so if you like learning from the best, you will like this positive spin on psyche.

I personally love philosophy and anything geared towards positive thinking; but reading should be inspiring, fun and worthy of your time.

A great read can be anything from a magazine - to a blog post - to a positive quote flip book - but a big part of bringing in new energy for the year is to allow your mind to absorb new information. So dust that book, magazine or fav. blog off this year and get inspired!
