What is Diabetes Mellitus :

DM also known as Silent Killer which if not diagnose and cure on its time may have severe affects on your body which include Retina (CATARACT), Heart (BRADYCARDIA, TACHYCARDIA) which leads to Heart fails, Brain( INSULIN RESISTANCE/IMPAIRED INSULIN SENSITIVITY) by pancreas, Nerves (SWOLLEN LEG and FOOT/ NO SENSATION FEELING) if any small deep cut or shoe bite.

Diabetes are of two types Type 1 (young ones and neonatal ones related) and Type 2 (Older one related)

Type 1 diabetes is caused by the loss of pancreatic beta cells, resulting in insulin insufficiency and ketoacidosis. This category covers instances caused by an autoimmune disease as well as those with an unknown cause of beta cell loss.

Type 2 diabetes can range from major insulin resistance and relative insulin shortage to a dominant secretory dysfunction and insulin resistance. Ketosis isn't as frequent.

Test

FPG ≥7.0 mmol/L Fasting: no caloric intake for at least 8 hours.

A1C level ≥6.5% in adults.

Using a standardized, validated test in the absence of variables affecting the accuracy of the A1C and not for suspected type 1 diabetes .

Alternatively, 2hPG in a 75 g OGTT ≥11.1 mmol/L or Random PG ≥11.1 mmol/LRandom = any time of day, regardless of the interval since the last meal

FPG is a rapid and easy-to-use test that predicts microvascular complications. It is not stable and has high daily variability. It is convenient (fasting) and can be measured any time of day. It is a better predictor of cardiovascular disease (CVD) than FPG, and has a low daily variability. It also accurately reflects long-term glucose concentrations. However, it is not suitable for children and adolescents† as the sole diagnostic test, pregnant women for routine screening of gestational diabetes, cystic fibrosis, or suspected type 1 diabetes.

A1C is a rapid blood glucose test that can be measured at any time of the day. It is a better predictor of cardiovascular disease (CVD) than FPG, 2hPG, or OGTT (75 g). It has low daily variability and reflects long term glucose concentration. The A1C test can be misleading in a variety of medical conditions. It can also vary by ethnicity and age. A standardized, validated A1C test is required. A1C is not recommended for children and adolescents (as the only diagnostic test) It is not recommended for pregnant women (for routine screening of gestational diabetes) It is also not recommended for people (cystic fibrosis patients or those with type 1 diabetes)
