Do you think you have a good memory? Most people don’t.

It’s been known that many students may not believe they possess super memory skills.

Yet, you rarely see someone forgetting to recollect a scene from a movie that they have watched ten years ago.

But while buying groceries, you may struggle to recollect a particular item. When you come home after all the shopping, it suddenly flashes!

That shows you have a great memory after all!

But why do you forget?

If you go to a library and ask for a book, even if there are thousands of books, the librarian will trace it and give it to you in no time.

This is because all the books in the library are systematically arranged and are so easy to trace.

Whereas if you go to the librarian’s house and ask for a book, he/she is sure to struggle because there is no systematic arrangement of books in the house.

Your memory works in exactly the same way. If it is arranged and kept in a systematic manner, it can last for a long term.

Otherwise, it will be momentary or short lived in your brain. In other words, those who organize their memory are known to possess excellent memory power.

Below are few of the memory building techniques that you can follow to become a memory expert:

1. Natural Memory Technique

To use this technique all you need to do is set aside 13 minutes daily to practice.

Start with after having your breakfast.

Then sit aside for two minutes and recall in the same order what you did right after you woke up until your breakfast.

Then proceed with your daily work.

After your lunch, repeat the same technique by setting aside two minutes and recalling all that you did from breakfast to lunch in the chronological order.

Now when you have your evening snacks, recall everything you did between lunch and snacks.

Then after dinner, recall everything that you did from snacks to dinner.

During bed time, spend 5 minutes recalling all that you did during the whole day.

The most important aspect is while recalling, you should recall the events in the same order as you did them.

When starting with this technique, in the first week it is normal to not be able to recall anything at all. But gradually in 4 weeks time, you will be able to recall everything.

This technique not only improves your natural memory but also your time management noticeably.

This is because, recalling the entire day’s process will help you reduce the unproductive time you spent on netflix or gossiping and will suddenly come to your notice.

2. Memory Mnemonics

I am sure you remember the seven colors of rainbow in the correct order. This is with the help of the word VIBGYOR.

Similarly you can coin your mnemonic to recall all the points in a topic.

There are a few different ways that you can use memory mnemonics in your everyday life.

One way is to create a mnemonic device for remembering things that you have to do on a daily basis.

For example, you could create a mnemonic for your daily routine that includes brushing your teeth, taking a shower, and getting dressed.

Another way to use memory mnemonics is to create a mnemonic for remembering a list of items.

For example, you could create a mnemonic for remembering a grocery list that includes fruits, nuts, veggies, and seeds.

There are all sorts of combinations you can create.

3. Permanent Memory Technique

Permanent memory techniques are methods used to improve and strengthen your memory.

These techniques can include things like mnemonic devices, visual aids, and repetition.

One way to use the Permanent Memory Technique in real life is to create a memory palace.

This is a method of memorization where you associate items you want to remember with specific locations in a building or other familiar place.

For example, if you wanted to remember a list of groceries, you could associate each item on the list with a different room in your house.

Then, when you went to the grocery store, you would mentally walk through your house, picking up the items on your list as you went.

This technique can be used for anything you want to remember, from a list of errands to an upcoming presentation at work.

4. Memory Imaging

Memory imaging is one of the easiest ways to put anything in your subconscious mind.

It is very simple and just takes a few seconds.

After reading a page thoroughly, gaze at it for a few seconds before reading the next page.

When gazing at the page, the image of the entire page gets photographed and gets stored in the subconscious.

Hence you will remember the matter for long.

The mind has an immense capacity for retention and recall. We only need to re-ignite ourselves to remember this ability.

Do memory imaging and see its wonderful impact on your memory, fortunately, this will take you even less than a minute!

5. Memory Diagrams

Memory Diagrams technique is a graphical representation of the relationships between different pieces of information in memory.

It can be used to represent both static and dynamic information.

Some tips on how to use this technique effectively include:

Breaking the task down into smaller, manageable steps.

Creating a visual representation of the task at hand, including any key information or data that needs to be remembered.

Using mnemonic devices such as rhymes or acronyms to help remember information.

Repeating the steps of the task out loud or in your head to help commit them to memory.

Taking practice quizzes or tests to see how well you remember the information.

Reviewing the memory diagram regularly to keep the information fresh in your mind.

The Memory Diagrams technique can be used in real life to help improve memory and recall.

This technique can be used to help remember names, faces, places, and events.

This technique can also be used to help remember information for school or work.

Thanks for reading! I trust this made you even more inspired to increase your memory with these methods.
