Should You Join the NewsBreak Contributor Network?

My thoughts on the news site

I recently became a contributor on NewsBreak after reading reviews on the platform from several writers on Medium.

NewsBreak is a community-based platform that allows individuals to stay connected and informed.

As a writer, I was interested in diversifying my portfolio. In addition to Vocal Media and now NewsBreak, I publish on other platforms such as Medium and Simily. Furthermore, my work has also been featured in Scary Mommy, The Good Men Project, Positively Positive, Her View from Home, and other online publications.

For the moment, I am using NewsBreak primarily to repurpose several Medium articles of mine. I have written one new article exclusively for the site.

The Platform

The NewsBreak platform is relatively user-friendly, although it occasionally glitches when I attempt to move a picture.

I have published seventeen articles thus far, and I have received numerous impressions and page views. Several articles of mine have even gone viral, much to my surprise.

When someone sees your headline but does not click on it, this is referred to as an impression; when someone clicks on your article to read it, this is referred to as a view. Therefore, views are equivalent to reads on Medium.

Guidelines, Compensation, and Followers

Their guidelines and policies are stringent compared to those of Medium. As NewsBreak strives to be the most popular news app, the bar for producers is relatively high.

NewsBreak compensates contributors based on the revenue generated by their qualified content. Each article you write has an RPM, the pay rate in dollars per 1000 views.

The RPM of your article is determined by a variety of factors, including subject matter, locality, and quality.

You need to attain 100 registered followers and have at least ten published stories to monetize any of your writing on the platform.

People who have a registered account on NewsBreak and have downloaded the NewsBreak app are registered followers. In other words, they are not the same as ordinary followers.

Fortunately, I reached the 100 subscribed followers milestone within ten days of being a contributor on the platform.

Publishing

When I first submitted my articles for review before publication, I received notifications suggesting title changes for several pieces.

Nonetheless, all of my articles were accepted for publication even without the title change. NewsBreak does not want any titles that might be seen as clickbait.

After the title changes, all of my pieces were published quickly.

Editing

After they were published, I reviewed the articles again and decided to make some changes. I had to resubmit them and go through the same review procedure again.

There was a chance that a different moderator might suddenly reject my previously approved content.

Nevertheless, all edits were approved, and the stories were soon republished.

Three-Strikes

NewsBreak also has a three-strike policy, under which any writer who breaches any of their various policies can be terminated from the site after three strikes. So far, I have not received any strikes.

Comments

I should point out that the comments on the articles are occasionally ludicrous and utterly irrelevant to the topic. If you don’t have thick skin, it might be best not to read them at all.

It almost seems like the readers are debating among themselves.

Final Thoughts

I applied for monetization and should receive a response within 30 days. They’ve told me to keep submitting articles to grow my audience in the interim.

After the requisite first ten pieces required for admittance into the contributor network, I assumed that I would be reimbursed for whatever articles I published. Hence, I submitted and published seven more pieces on the platform.

When I contacted NewsBreak support, I was told that the articles I published before my application was accepted and before I was authorized to monetize would not be monetized.

I will hold off on submitting any further pieces pending monetization.

I plan to stay on the platform and use it to repurpose content from Medium while also occasionally generating new content for the site.

Nice, I recently got accepted for monetization also. Took a little over a week after I applied. Waiting for stories to get published takes patience after Medium but so far I'm liking the platform. Have gotten some decent views so far. Good luck to us both!
