With so much work that has to be done, you’re probably trying to come up with ways to increase your output. Now, there are two ways you can do this: put in more hours, or try to work smarter. If you’re like most people, you prefer the latter. Luckily, improving your performance at work isn’t a rocket science. In fact, there are plenty of easy things you can do that are guaranteed to help you improve your performance. We singled out five of them that might just be what you were looking for.

Automate a routine activity.

No matter what kind of work you do, there have to be some aspects of your work that are just too easy but tend to take up a lot of your time. Some of these activities can easily be automated, which can do wonders for your work performance. So, try to create an email template for inquiries you send often, or create an Excel spreadsheet that will help you deal with calculations you do on a daily basis. Of course, all of these things will help you improve your efficiency. On top of that, by automating activities like this, you’ll be able to focus on more challenging tasks.

Get out of your office.

Sitting in front of the screen from 9 to 5 is never a good thing. Not only that this can cause eye strain and back problems, but it also hurts your work performance. That’s why getting out of your office a few times per day can be of huge help. Therefore, use your 10-minute break to take a walk around the building or to a local supermarket and buy a healthy snack. Also, try to make the most out of these breaks and get as much physical activity as you can. For example, say goodbye to elevators and only take stairs when moving around the building.

Purge all the clutter.

There’s no need to say that working in a cluttered space is always going to make you less productive. Not only can clutter make it more difficult to find the thing you’re looking for, but it can also cause a fear that you’ve forgotten something or missed a deadline. You can start decluttering by freeing up one of your drawers and using it to store all the things that are just sitting on your desk and collecting dust. Also, try to store as many things as you can digitally, since all those sticky notes on your screen only clutter your screen and draw your attention.

Try to limit distractions.

With so many things going on, people today can get distracted easier than ever. Open office spaces are definitely great, but sometimes all the noise can only slow you down—not to mention what having noisy neighbors can do to those who work from home. If you think the noise is hurting your work performance, make sure you get in-ear headphones that are going to help you limit all those distractions. Another thing we recommend is deleting all the bookmarks you have on your PC that are not work-related. Those little icons in your browser can distract you from work in a matter of seconds.

Work on your professional capabilities.

Reading books, taking online classes, and attending events related to your industry are just some of the ways you can become better at what you do. Even if these things tell you the things you already know, they’ll help improve your proficiency and increase your credibility among your co-workers. Of course, there are many other things that are not industry-related but are going to help you improve your work performance. For example, you can take a formal writing or a foreign language class, as these things are guaranteed to pay off at some point.

When you’re in the middle of day-to-day business, doing all the things we mentioned above can help you achieve much better results. Just make sure you always keep working on improving your work performance.
