Features of Hologic Mammography 3D Technology:

Mammography

By David HodgePublished 3 years ago 3 min read

As per research, in 2020, there were approximately 2.3 million women who were diagnosed with breast cancer, out of which a total of 685,000 deaths happened. In the past five years, 7.8 million women were diagnosed with breast cancer, which made breast cancer the world’s most prevalent cancer.

However, what if we were able to diagnose breast cancer at an earlier stage and be able to see the lesions crystal clear? If we were able to do this, then we would end up reducing the unnecessary biopsies. This led the Hologic scientists and researchers to come up with Hologic Mammography 3D technology. The Hologic mammography system helps in breast tomosynthesis.

About Hologic Mammography 3D Technology & System:

Hologic has always been at the front of a breast cancer screening as it is used for offering the very first breast technology of tomosynthesis. In addition, it has been proven that it does have superior performance clinically as compared to the 2D mammography technology.

In terms of the process of mammography screening, the system provides the following, which has helped doctors in their testing massively:

● Sharp and crystal clear pictures

● A seamless transition between the different modes of imaging

● User tools that are sophisticated and help in simplified operations.

● Clinical advanced applications

● Biopsy, which is tomosynthesis-guided

● For ease of operation and patient comfort, an ergonomic design

The 3D Mammography exams, which come with a tomosynthesis-guided technology, have been proven to detect 40% - 60% more invasive breast cancer when compared to the 2D Mammography, which is almost an average increase of 40%. In addition, this technology has also been proven to reduce callbacks up to an average of 40% compared to the 2D Mammography.

Features of Hologic Mammography 3D Technology System:

This clinically superior, low dose, and fast Mammography 3D screening has been drastically compared to the 2D technology. As we saw above, there are plenty of advantages to using this technology, and the biggest USP is that this technology helps in the early screening of breast cancer.

Here are the primary features of the Hologic mammography 3D technology system:

C-View Software:

The Hologic mammography 3D technology system is powered by a C-View software, resulting in a low-dose 3D mammography genius. The low dose genius exam of 3D Mammography gets performed in a 3.7 second rapid scan time. This offers a much greater patient comfort and a low patient dose as the 2D X-ray exposures get eliminated. In addition, both the 2D synthetic images and 3D slides get reviewed together by the doctors to make informed clinical decisions.

High-Resolution Display:

Images can get viewed on a 2MP or 3MP calibrated DICOM display which provides exceptional display quality with finer details. This allows the medical experts to do a prior breast image study and simultaneously views both previous and new images.

Quick Paddle System:

The system conforms to the natural breast contours, which ultimately provides greater comfort to the patient. It also provides added compression across the whole breast. Paddles are used for both 2D and 3D imaging.

Streamlined Head of Tube:

The system has an ample SID (Source-to-image) of 70 cm and a tube head, making the positioning easier. Hence, it provides more space for the various procedures of interventions.

Face Shield:

The system offers an optimised face shield which primarily helps during the positioning of the patient.
