Best Friends miles apart

September 2nd, 2019.

The photo on the left is my best friends’ picture that was taken approximately 16:12 up at M.Gurr Lake, Blue Jay Lake. She had sent me a message to see if I wanted to join her, our cousin and aunt on that hike that morning. I had a hard time deciding if I wanted to sweat on a hike or be all sweaty on the ocean trying to slay a halibut for dinner. It was a bit of a tough decision at the time ha-ha. I just said heck with it, I was on a mission and wanted to catch at least something on the rod before the long weekend ended and before summer ended. We spend the last bit of summer on the ocean, unfortunately we couldn’t get the boat in the water sooner because it needed a bit of TLC before it was reliable enough to take out for the day. We didn’t want to get so far away from home or people and have it break down on us, so we made sure it was durable before going out past Clayton Falls first.

Just the day before I went to Williams Lake to trade in my 2015 Nissan Titan for a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado LTZ & Mandi tagged along for the ride to get some Tim Horton’s and Subway. I did not want to take my black new truck and scratch it up going up to Blue Jay. I didn’t know we were not going to take my brand-new truck through the bushy back roads, they end up taking our aunt’s truck up to Blue Jay.

So off we go on our day, doing our own thing on that beautiful day.

Once she got to the look out over the ocean, she stopped to take pictures and rehydrate after hiking. After she took a few pictures she realized there was a boat driving around down in the ocean. She was looking down on the ocean wondering if it were me down there fishing. She was also wondering if I could see her. Little did she know that was me down on that boat in her picture somewhere. . .

The photo on the right was taken at 16:17, my picture that Iver took of me with my rock cod that I just fought for the last 5-10 minutes…on a ten-foot spring rod. I was so happy to finally catch something after all that time I put into fishing and jigging last summer. It was funny, after I caught that rock cod I cracked a cold one to celebrate right away and give my arms a little break after that good fight it put on. While I was sitting there all happy after catching that cod I looked up at the mountains wondering if it was the mountain Mandi went hiking on.

I thought it all was a crazy turn out…little did she know that while she was taking photos of the ocean, I am somewhere down on the ocean slaying in that rock cod. While we are miles apart, we still thought of each other. I took it as true love, we were meant to be best friends! Haha.

That evening we took all the fresh rock cod home to feast on it for dinner. We rolled them in a batter and deep fried it and made some homemade French fries and a delicious Caesar salad too. We were so happy to have enough for 2 families to eat that night that none of it went in the deep freeze. All that mattered to us was that it was a good day spent with great people and that good day ended with GOOD food!
