Was It An Angel I Saw

Based On A True Life Event

By Penned by RiaPublished 2 years ago 3 min read

When I was a child, my third elder sister claimed to have seen an old woman in red disappear into thin air while she was in the living room. She told the remaining of us but we didn't believe her.

One day, while I was playing with my fourth elder sister, an old woman in red with a withered face and vacant eyes passed by and suddenly disappeared into thin air which left goosebumps, chills and sweat rolling down our backs.

At that point, my sisters were so convinced it had happened, that we couldn't find where she went or if there were any signs she had ever been there.

In the end, it only served to remind me about my father's story from when he was young. The stories of people who could be invisible until you're right next to them, then vanish into thin air. It always made me wonder whether one day someone might see a ghost; but at this point, I'm not even sure I believe in ghosts anymore.

But maybe if I do, this woman in red is just that. Maybe I'm looking for something that isn't there and if I keep searching long enough, I'll find out what it is that I am looking for.

Some days, we could feel the presence of dark energy sometimes accompanied by the sound of soft footsteps and strange whispers.

On this particular day, the whole family came back from a vigil when my dad was moving past the bathroom door and noticed it was closed. He went to check up on everyone just to find out we were all complete in our various rooms. That means something else was inside the bathroom. He woke everyone and they tried opening the door in different ways but no amount of force could break down the door.

My mum had to sprinkle salt on the front of the bathroom door. Afterwards, we started hearing some strange cries. A few minutes later, the door opened by itself. On the floor of the bathroom were ashes-like substances. That was when we realised we were living in a haunted house.

A lot of strange things kept happening that make me now wonder why we stayed that long in that house before finally packing out

there.

The house seemed perfect when we first rented it until we noticed some pounding which happens on some days.

It came from inside the walls. It was faint at first, but sometimes it would grow louder. Soon you realized that whatever was in there was trying to get out.

And then maggots started falling from different parts of my brothers' room ceiling. They'd hit our hair, they'd land on our shoulders, they were just everywhere. We had to do something—but what?

After some days, my family decided to do some prayer and cleansing. Then that very night while we were all sleeping, it started raining and suddenly there was a flash of lightning and thunder right above us. Then I noticed that one tree had caught on fire. My third elder sister said that's the old woman's house that was struck by lightning. We were scared for a moment, but then we laughed hysterically because it was so random and funny to us.

It was a dark, gloomy night. The wind was howling, and the trees were waving in the wind. But then again, something strange happened shortly after. I woke up at night in our room. I looked around, planning to go use the restroom. As I was looking around, I saw something.

I saw an angel sitting on a white table. I was so scared that I closed my eyes tightly hoping it was a dream. Wasn't sure of what I saw and wasn't sure if it was real. Imprinted on my mind since that day was the question— was it an angel I saw?
