Love's Dark Obsession

The Twisted Tale of David Harlow's Deadly Pursuit

By yousif hajiPublished 3 days ago 4 min read

David, who was once held in low esteem, was a normal person. He was middle-aged and did a good job as a graphic designer in a small, dull place where everyone was like him. David was a silent person who hardly got noticed and behaved in a polite and modest way. He spent every day living by himself in a simple apartment that was consistent with his stereotyped form of life-sustaining by his work, grocery shopping, and weekends on his own. His neighbors were not at all interested in him, they only thought he was a poor, lonely man.

On the other hand, David was hiding a secret about himself, a dark passion that was all enshrouded him. He would have been sick of just a typical one, he was lusting for a love that comes from above. The kind of bonding that he thought was possible would occur only if he commits the frightening and horrible act. True Love in his view was not a personal sacrifice but it was the girls he was fixated on who would be sacrificed. For them, killing them was the most valuable thing a suicidal person could do.

His first catch was Laura, an optimistic barista at the nearby coffee shop. Laura constantly acted toward David with a big bright smile and each time she asked how he was doing. His self-respect and self-regard made him dump her charity as love. He started following her, learning her routines and habits also. Some night, when she exited from the coffee shop, David went to her under the pretext of asking a flat tire to be fixed.

Laura helped a lot as usual and accepted to help him. David brought her to a place where he said he parked his car. It was a deserted alley and the dark was all over. He struck under the coat of he needed a hand with a flat tire. With the tire iron, he made a few light but fast movements which resulted in her going straight to a sleep-like state. David was both happy and nervous since he pulled her limp body to the trunk of his vehicle. He took his car to a location which was next to the town and which was no longer in use, as he had been looking for this kind of place that is very suitable for this kind of operation.

Creepy David built a rough altar in the cold, dark basement and put Laura there. He told her that he was so thrilled that she was now his only one. Laura came back to her senses for a little bit and her eyes were wide open from the horror but David was too blinded by his feelings. He cut it off by the method of strangulation making himself believe that in paradise, she will come to see the depth of his love.

Almost unarmed, the police discovered Laura in two days. The world seemed to be dedicated to the nonsensical acts of violence. David indulged in a false pride thinking that he found the right way. However, love, obsession, and possession started to take the toll on him within a short time.

The next young girl targeted was Emily who was a librarian. Emily was alone not talking much. While inside the library, Emily became the figure of his interest as her quietness and the few friendly words she exchanged with him attracted him. The cycle went on: trailing her from a distance, understanding her habits, and finally, the move. This time, he ordered the book and told her that the book was a collector's item, but the price of it was only a tour of the warehouse. She moved with him and curiosity trapped her.

Like Laura's, Emily died quickly. David's delusion was more profound, and it was not possible to differentiate love from killing in his mind. He was under the impression that he was creating a group of spirit lovers, backups that stayed with him indefinitely in the beyond.

Nonetheless, his deeds did not escape the notice of others. The cops started to note-points which connected the vanishing of Laura and Emily. Recording and the evidence added by the witnesses, along with characteristics of David - courage increased with his awareness of freedom, made them eventually link his acts to his door.

At the time when David was getting prepared for his disgusting piece of so-called love, the police broke into his apartment. They discovered detailed schemes, photos, and tokens from his victims. David got arrested without any struggle, and he maintained his usual ease.

David did not regret his actions during the trial, as he was heartless when he talked about the women he had killed, how he believed they were fated to be with him forever. The jury was shocked to hear of his lack of caring, the negative reality that sunk in.

The person sentenced to life in prison is David, who even at this very moment still is. The town began to lose the horror of the event which became a distant memory in some cases, but the families of Laura and Emily were still living with it. David did all these things he thought were a display of love but actually, they were the things that then brought him back the same kind of disdain when the people around spoke of him. Love so sick that sweeps through families of the lost and who are left to face it as a cruel reminder of the sources of evil concealed underneath ordinary appearance.
