Jellico Tennessee- Urban Legends Part 2

Do you believe?

By Rebecca Lynn IveyPublished 3 years ago 5 min read

It's claimed that there is a road in Jellico where ghost children will touch your car.

Amy from Jellico - I have heard about this since I was a teenager in school. We use to dare each other to drive by and see if it really happens. A few years ago I actually tried it. I decided that it was way past time to see if the story was true.

What you have to do is, bring along some baby powder or corn starch and have it ready. In the area that was once known as Frog Level. About half way down the road there is a off-set, jump out and sprinkle it all over the hood of your car, in a thin layer. Turn your headlights off and wait for a couple of minutes. The ghost children will come and touch your car, you'll see the little hand prints in the powder. I have also heard people say that if you roll the windows down and listen, you can hear them. I even had someone to tell me that they felt their car shake slightly. It doesn't happen every single time. It took me five trips before I finally seen the hand prints. Other people claim that it happened on the very first try.

The Dark Lady

Jennifer from Jellico - My dad and papaw use to tell the story of the dark lady and I have since heard several others mention her. Just down the hill from our house there is a funeral home. The dark lady is tall, wearing a black formal dress and has dark hair and eyes. She can be seen walking along the side streets and straight into the funeral home.

I have lived in the same house for 37 years and I have seen her with my own eyes multiple times. According to the legend her name is Mildred and she died in a car accident on the night of her prom. She was buried in her formal prom dress. She walks the roads at night looking for her prom date and then returns to the funeral home where her service was held. I have heard that she lived on the South end of town and has been seen on every side street in the area, especially close to the South end red light.

The Demon Dog

Paul from Jellico - For years I have heard people talk about the demon dog. He's a large, solid black dog that walks around town at night. Years ago he belonged to a man here in Jellico who walked the streets all of the time. You'd always see him with this big dog at his side. One night a car came through town traveling very fast and ran over the dog. They didn't even bother to stop, just kept on going. After that the dogs owner must have moved on because he wasn't really seen after that. The dog however, walks the town at night searching for the car that ran him down.

People all over town say that they have seen him at night. He gets blamed for making dogs around town bark at night as he walks by. One man told me that he walked right up on the demon dog one night. His dogs began barking and wouldn't stop so he went outside to check on them. The demon dog was in the road looking directly at him. He tried to scare it off but it wouldn't budge. As he got closer the dog took off running and disappeared into thin air. I also heard that you can smell burnt rubber when the demon dog is nearby.

A friend of mine said that him and his dad seen the demon dog one night. A large dog was right in the middle of the road and wouldn't move. At first they believed that they had hit the dog so his dad got out to look. He said that the dog was right in front of them but the headlights of the truck ran straight through it. He also said that there was a strong smell of rubber in the air. His dad jumped back in the truck and they took off.

If your dogs start barking for no reason and you can smell rubber, go back inside.

The Kind Stranger

Kim from Jellico - I have heard so many different people talk about the kind stranger who came to help them when they needed it. He's a young man, pale with dark circles under his eyes. He has the most vivid, beautiful blue eyes. He is very handsome but never speaks a single word and vanishes before anyone can thank him.

My own mother was walking home from town on afternoon. She's older and enjoys walking to the drug store when the weather is nice. On her way home some young men began walking close behind her. She heard one of them say "Do you think she's got cash?" She wasn't sure that they was even talking about her but she was scared. This kind stranger came out of nowhere and began walking beside of her. She said that his very presence made her feel at ease and safe. He walked beside of her until they reached her home. She wanted to thank him but he was gone.

A man that I work with said that his daughter had a car accident in town. Before the police or anyone arrived the kind stranger was there. He reached into the car and touched her forehead. He never spoke a word but he made her feel like she was safe and unharmed. He stood beside of the car with his hand on her shoulder until the first official arrived. She looked back and he was gone. She asked several people where he had went but nobody had seen him.

An elderly lady was in the cemetery visiting her husbands grave. She slipped and fell and was unable to get up. She yelled for help but there was nobody near that could hear her. The kind stranger reached down and lifted her back to her feet. She don't know where he came from but she described him as being young, very attractive with stunning blue eyes. As soon as she was on her feet, the man was gone. She looked all around and he was nowhere to be found.

A man was jogging along a trail in the park early one morning. He reeled his ankle and was unable to get back on his feet. The kind stranger came and helped him back up, but he still couldn't walk. He said that the young man reached down and rubbed his ankle and the pain subsided enough that he could walk back to his car. He said that the man never spoke a word, he was young and pale with big blue eyes. As he was looking down at his ankle, the kind stranger disappeared and was nowhere to be seen.

I have heard other stories and they're all the same.
