The General Election held in the UK on 4th July 2024 resulted in a Landslide Victory for the Labour Party. The Labour Party won 412 seats in the Houses of Parliament, an increase of 211 seats more than their existing elected MPs (Members of Parliament).

The Conservatives won 121 seats, 251 less than their existing MPs.

A Landslide Victory was predicted for Labour, but I don’t think many people foresaw these numbers.

I’m pretty sure the debate will continue far into the future.

How could the ruling party be so out of touch with the electorate?

One of the visions outlined in the Manifesto for the Tory Party was to bring back National Service. Many older people mutter this when they see young people enjoying themselves, or not falling into established regimes.

What a frightening prospect. If one of my children wanted to go into the Armed Services, I wouldn’t be celebrating, but on the other hand I wouldn’t stand in their way if that is what they would really wanted to do.

It’s one thing to play video war games, it’s another thing entirely to take up arms and face a fight against an enemy, who the Government want eliminated.

Just this last week the world saw truly heartbreaking pictures from Kiev, Ukraine when a Children's hospital had been struck by a missile. And, the pictures coming out of Gaza are appalling. So, how can a Government be so out of touch with it's own people?

Sorry, I don't have the answer to that one, but I remember over One Million People marching through the City of London in protest to the imminent Iraq War on 16 February 2003.

The Government took no notice of the people they were elected to serve and went ahead with the invasion - to a Disastrous Future for so many.

Britain and the US destroyed Iraq and in consequence traumatised a generation of young people who were in the Armed Forces. Many suffered PTSD for decades. These young men and women, many of whom were horribly injured, often went through relationship break-ups, losing their homes, friends and their emotional support network.

You see, once you harm a nation they will always hold a grudge against you. I believe if anyone killed my family, my parents, children, aunts, nieces and nephews, I don't know if I would be able to find forgiveness.

Love is not WEAKNESS. It is the highest human emotion and the path to dignity and integrity.

It Was All About The Oil

Britain and the US knew there were huge deposits of Oil and Gas in Iraq all they needed was the infrastructure in place to extract these and bring them to the market.

A friend of mine kept nagging me about a Company called 'Gulf Keystone Petroleum' who were going to make it big in Iraq.

I refused to invest because of the hundreds and thousands of Iraqi lives destroyed by Westerner's greed.

My friend used all his pension savings, borrowed extra money and convinced his girlfriend to sell her house and invest in these shares - I mean, what could possibly go wrong?

He even managed to convince his own father to release equity from the family home. When he told me that, my blood ran cold.

Yes, fortune favours the brave! I said nothing to him about that, but felt very uneasy.

Of course, once Gulf Keystone Petroleum had used all the investor's money to bring the oil to the surface, ISIS invaded the oil fields and started looting. From what I understood, ISIS hijacked oil tankers, drove them to the port and pumped the stolen oil onto ships to take the cargo goodness knows where.

I pray the wars in the World will find a peaceful solution, and hope the young people won’t be tricked into being ‘cannon fodder’ yet again.
