Quora's home feed just hit it's rock bottom

Quora is an online platform to gain and share knowledge. It’s been ranked below 500 by Alexa based on the global user engagement. You can ask your questions and you can also answer questions from others.

“It's a platform to ask questions and connect with people who contribute unique insights and quality answers.”

At Least that’s what it's supposed to be. But now, whenever I open Quora website, this is the recommendation I get.

All I see are

“ What is the most disturbing tweet you saw today?”

“ What is the best comeback tweet you saw?”

“ What is wrong about this community, what is wrong about that”

“ Why do you hate this person or rule?”

“ What is the most amazing fact you know about this thing?”

“ What made your blood boil today?”

“ What are some tweets that deserve 0.1 M likes?”

And these are the groups that I follow on Quora.

And I answer questions related mostly to technology and machine learning topics. How are these recommendations even a single percent related to what I do. I can’t even make those types of content go away.

Don’t get me wrong. I use Quora too. Quora helped me clear all my doubts during my school and college life. It’s a great site to go to if you have any doubts. And if you have searched for anything you want to know on google, then there is a high possibility that you will land on a Quora page. Your answers will be answered by professionals who have been working in that field. It’s always a plus point. My problem is with the home feed I get on Quora.

There is not even a Don’t recommend this content option in Quora like it’s available on other social media sites.

There is only a hide option for the stories, but I don’t think it does anything for your feed except to just hide that story.

It keeps on recommending me similar kinds of stories even after hiding and downvoting 10s of those kinds of stories.

These are not even questions that anyone would actually want answers to. This is just to fill the guy’s faith in something or to boost his ego on something. Quora just became a playground for cliche , sad sob stories, and petty intellectual things.

The crazy part is this is the type of content that gets the most views and following in Quora. I have seen people getting millions of views for answering these types of questions. All you need to get views on Quora is to answer the most douche questions on the platform.

And I don't even want to get started about the news feed in Quora. Half of them are just paid clickbait ADs. I hate being besieged by paid editorials and clickbait. More than half of the newsfeed I see are just random clickbait ADs that are not even related to the topics I follow or the topics that I answer questions about.

Next, coming to answering questions. Just because long answers get recommended more on Quora, you don’t need to write a 1000 words and add a girl picture for a simple straight forward question. Those are so annoying. And because of people doing that, some simple and good answers are not getting recommended.

Well that’s it for today. Thanks for reading through the article. I don’t have hate against Quora and I just think that the recommendation system needs to be improved. I don’t even have a problem with people following those kinds of questions, everyone has their choice.

I just don’t want these to be recommended to me. All other social media platforms have an option like “ Don’t recommend this channel”, “ Don't Recommended this type of content”. But it seems like Quora doesn’t have one like that. And even if I downvote, I am getting similar questions again and again.
