House of the Dragon

Episode 5

By Alexandrea CallaghanPublished about a month ago 4 min read

Last week's episode of House of the Dragon was the best episode of the series so far. Rook’s Rest was emotional, action packed and entertaining. But there is still a lot of music left to this dance and I am now hopeful that the show will not retreat into unnecessary and unimpactful events. There will obviously be some fallout from what happened in the last episode, let’s see if the writers have finally found their footing.

The Greens parading Melys’ head through the townsfolk has got to be the dumbest fucking thing they’ve ever done. Targaryens, ALL Targaryens only have power because of their dragons and now you are showing the common folk just how vulnerable dragons are. The Greens really don’t have a single shred of common sense.

Honestly the best thing this show has going for it is the acting. The ability of the cast to convey so much emotion and story without words is truly incredible.

Aemond is vicious and I love it, Aegon deserved exactly what he got and he went out like a little bitch. Fucker got his shit rocked by Rhaenys and Melys and got burned by his brother.

These council members need to check themselves when talking to my Rhaenyra. I love that she checks these dudes, they’ve never fought for shit but they like to act like they know more than here.

My sweet Baela answers an argument the internet has been having with common sense. She gets to fight while Jace is stuck under Rhea's watch because he is the heir. Putting him in danger is the same as the Queen flying out herself.

I am surprised that we are spending any time at all with Raena but I am glad that we get to see her.

Rhaenyra and Myseria is actually a team up that I really like. Myseria understands the people, and that is an advantage that the blacks have over the greens.

Sooooo what the fuck Daemon? Why are we dreaming about fucking your mom? Seems like a lot even for Game of Thrones. I am now traumatized thank you very much. Daemon is getting a little power hungry over there in Harrenhal. Sir you are the king, consort at best which means nothing.

Alicent getting silenced at the Greens council was necessary and hilarious. And they are 100% correct, you can’t usurp Rhaenyra’s throne because she is a woman and then try to seat yourself on the throne. Aw stupid, sad, pathetic little Alicent.

Alicent has been whoreing herself out for power this whole fucking she and she’s all shocked that these men don’t actually care. Crispin Cole sided with Aemond. She really thought pussy was gonna get her loyalty. Dumbass.

Jace is great. Jace is doing exactly what a sweet, loyal prince should do. He is gathering forces for his mother and looking adorable doing it.

Daemon fully committing treason while talking to Alys. Literally telling her that he will take kings landing and that Rhaenyra is welcome to join him. Could we stop butchering my Daemon? Book Daemon would NEVER. He loves Rhaenyra and he fights for his queen until his death. Why are we pretending that he would betray her? Why did the creators bother adapting this if they hated the source material so much?

Baela is my favorite character. She really tells Corlys to shove it. She proves once again why Targaryen women are the absolute best. “I am blood and fire, Driftmark must pass to salt and sea”. I love her so very much.

My Rhaenyra senses her husband's betrayal and sends one of her council members to keep him in check. The scene between Jace and his mom makes me so happy. This boy is so smart and he is really one of the best people to give advice to his momma.

We have got 3 more episodes this season, the penultimate episode being specially screened at San Diego Comic Con. I am not quite sure how many battles into the dance we are going to get. In the grand scheme of things this war didn’t actually last very long. And it does seem that the show is keeping the same sort of timeline. The writers have in fact, not found their footing. They are just hellbent on destroying Daemon’s character for some reason. I am fully convinced that they never picked up the damn book. And as Daemon is Martin’s favorite character these dumbass greens on the internet can stop with the whole “But Martin approves!” crap. He wrote a whole blog post on how adapters should not deviate from the source material and you people genuinely think that he meant all adaptations except for the ones based off of his work? Really? Greens really don’t have any common sense. We end this episode with Corlys seemingly accepting the title of hand and Rhaenyra hatching a plan to acquire more dragon riders. This was some beautiful set up and I hope they pay it off properly next episode.
