Finally, I Can Speak: We Are in the Year of the Greatest Series of 2022

This year has House of The Dragon

By Casimiro Filipe Published 2 years ago 7 min read

George Martin, the creator of the entire series universe, has already watched the first episode of "House of The Dragon. " of course he talked about what he thought of this episode number one, gave lots of details and I think this is the best way to start 2022.

"Now it's all going to be very quick of waiting for the premiere to happen."

What Did Martin Say About Episode One?

Well, there's a lot to detail in this story, to start with the series filming ends this January, but I want to start first about Martin's comment.

Martin has a website called "Not a Blog," that's where he has released all the House of the Dragon updates. And when it is Martin talking about the new series he always communicates there; and this time he made a post saying that he has seen the rough cut of episode 1 of the Targaryen series. This cut he saw is for sure the unfinished episode (it is not the final episode), maybe the episode is not with full CGI, with green screen appearing, it must have more scenes. Usually, the first cut of a movie or a series is like that because it is not completely polished, they always cut some scenes in the definitive product, but it is already considered an episode, it is just detailed stuff that makes it not considered the definitive one.

I will tell you exactly what Martin said there on his website, and you can follow along in the image below. The first thing he said is that he was delighted to hear that House of the Dragon is this year's most anticipated series on the IMDB list. Well, up to here there are zero surprises because it is obvious that it is the most anticipated series, and here comes what matters, he says that he watched episode 1 and that he loved it, that it is dark, powerful, visceral the way he likes it; exactly the way Martin's epic fantasy is. He goes on to say in the text that Ryan and Miguel have done an amazing job; Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik are the creators of this series and finally, Martin says that the Targaryen is in good hands, referring to who is doing the series, not just Ryan nor just Miguel but the whole team. And in the end, Martin ends by saying that he thinks we will not be disappointed.

It was just praised by the creator of this whole universe.

What can I say with all this?

I don't think Martin would wake up, turn on his computer, make a post praising the series if it wasn't really good. If the show was really bad, I don't think he would say anything, he would keep quiet because it wouldn't do him any good to lie at this moment when the show will premiere in a few months. Everybody would see that the show is bad, so I trust what he said, House of the Dragon is already one step ahead of Game of Thrones in the following aspect; I know some people don't know this or have forgotten this, but the pilot episode of Game of Thrones was a disaster, it never aired, the original episode was thrown in the trash, nobody ever saw it, they only saved two or three scenes from it and HBO almost canceled Game of Thrones before it aired because the pilot episode was garbage. Then HBO debated and debated, so they decided to insist on the idea, made another episode that is episode 1 of the series as we know it, and that's when the series did well, but it didn't do well in the first place. With House of the Dragon it didn't work out that way, the first episode did well and the series will be released this year.

The series started filming last year and is already premiering this year! This is a good thing because the first episode went well the first time and GOT did not. Of course, when GOT was being made, it was a different time, HBO didn't have much experience to start with everything perfect, but now everything has changed, HBO has much more experience with this universe of series, they learned too much with GOT and they are applying this learning to the new series and this is too good. And another very important thing, for God's sake, Martin's opinion is very valid; first is that he is the creator of the stories, so nobody knows more than him, so when he says that the business is really good and that we won't be disappointed, I'm pretty sure that he is telling the truth because he is a very demanding person when it comes to quality. No wonder it takes him so long so much time it takes him to make each book, it's because he doesn't want to release just any crap. So this post from Martin in my view is not +a cliché text, just to speak well of the series, the House of the Dragan really must be very good that's why Martin said that. I at least am reassured that the series will be good, I am not afraid, but I also understand, I also know that we can only be sure after watching the series, isn't it, there is no way, only watching the series to know if the business is very good. But until the series release happens, I don't think it is an exaggeration to have higher expectations because we are talking about HBO and a story from a universe that is impeccable, which is the Game of Thrones universe; so it is a perfect union.

If you have that thought of keeping expectation low so you don't get disappointed, and that is right, creating a low expectation in many cases is better, "if you already expect disappointment you don't get disappointed. " notwithstanding, I don't think this is the case with the new series, it has many more elements that contribute to the series being an absurdity of good news than elements that indicate it will be bad. And I also know that you have people who are only just now learning about the series and are afraid that David and Daniel Weiss are making the series. But let's understand this: if you don't like the production of David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, the creators of Game of Thrones, you can be comfortable because they are not in the new series, it's another team, they have nothing to do with the Targaryen series, you can be relaxed. The Game of Thrones person who is in the new series is Miguel Sapochnik, and that's too good because he is a tremendous director; he directed the Battle of the Bastards, the best fight of the series he did, and he also did the episode "Winter Wind," the best episode of the series, the one where Cersei blows up the Septum and reveals that John is a Targaryen. Anyway, Miguel is very good and it's great that they called him, and the best of all is this: "House of the Dragon" is being adapted on top of Fire and Blood, the book that has the complete story with the beginning middle and end.

"So yes, the series already has an ending and it's all there in the book. "

If you feel like knowing all of the Targaryen stories and you haven't read Fire and Blood yet, you can buy the physical book on Amazon. I'm going to give a very good tip for those who are going to read it for the first time and want to save time; if you want to readjust the House of the Dragon part of the story, you don't need to read everything from the beginning, you don't need to read 500 pages, if you want to save time and go straight into the story of the new series, you will start reading the gogo and blood on page 289. It is from this page that the plot of the Targaryen series starts, and that is the good thing about Fire and Blood too, one part of it tells the story of the new series and the other part the beginning of it, tells the story of the first Targaryen kings starting with Aegon the conqueror. So the book is for those who want to know everything about the new series and for those who don't; you can read Fire and Blood and not know anything about what will happen in the Targaryen series. You can read the book and keep everything new in the series, just read it from page 1 and stop at page 289.

According to Matt Smith the author of Daemon Targaryen, the filming of House of the Dragon ends now in January, what the exact day of January is nobody knows yet, but it is obvious that the series is almost basically done. I think, based on everything that has come out, what's missing is editing exactly the last footage, most of the episodes should be done by now, so I'm optimistic for the series to be released in April. I think it's going to be that, either it's going to be April, or it's going to be July, but either way, it's already 2022, so pictures are going to start coming out, full Trailer and the release date.

So all we can do is wait for the series to arrive.
