Do you want to build a snowman?

North Shore Music Theatre presents Disney’s Frozen. When Elsa’s magical ice powers spiral out of control, the kingdom of Arendelle is cursed with an eternal winter. It’s up to Anna and her friends, Kristoff, Sven, and Olaf, to find her sister and save their home from the frigid cold.

I was giddy like a child (surrounded by several) while experiencing the magic of NSMT’s Frozen. It's an amazing time with spirited energy, snowflakes, and memorable songs. This enchanting show brings the beloved Disney characters and story to life. Audiences are swept away in this snowy tale about sisterly love, courage, and believing in yourself.

Alyssa Fox and Celeste Rose shine in the iconic roles of Elsa and Anna. They each illuminated in enthusiasm and showstopping musical numbers. Anna and Elsa’s dynamic is the most important part of Frozen. Their immense love is a powerful example of their sister bond and how they support each other.

Rose perfectly captures Anna’s bubbly personality, particularly in ‘For the First Time in Forever.’ As soon as the familiar musical notes for ‘Let It Go’ started, the audience could not wait. Fox belted the fan-favorite musical number. It was the show’s highlight as some younger viewers sang along.

An ensemble of actors plays memorable supporting roles. Harris Milgrim (Hans) and Julio Rey (Kristoff) are excellent in their respective roles. Anna learns a beneficial lesson about love. Anna and Kristoff’s witty banter created a commotion of laughs. I will never forget the reaction when Milgrim revealed his character's true colors.

Elliott Mattox (Olaf) and Christopher Palmieri (Sven) had unique roles. Mattox’s animated performance as Olaf the Snowman garnered laughter. Mattox puppeteered the little snowman as did Palmieri as the lovable reindeer, Sven.

There’s no such thing as a small part in theater. The ensemble had an excellent time dancing, singing, and being a part of a show that’s loved by many. Special mentions go to Helen M. Brady and Penelope Rhoads as young Anna and Elsa (Also played by Livia Quist and Lola Rhoads in other performances). Oaken (Michael Shimmele) was another favorite.

The audience is transported into the snowy land of Arendelle. Technicians are hard at work with set decorations, illuminating light shows, and one of the most impressive costume changes ever! Elsa’s wardrobe change was a magical moment that elated children's minds.

Accompanied by a live orchestra, Frozen’s soundtrack is unforgettable. Songs include ‘Love is an Open Door,’ ‘Do You Want to Build a Snowman,’ ‘In Summer,’ and ‘I Can’t Lose You.’

In contrast to the show’s bitter cold setting, an intense heatwave has brewed for the summer. The entire cast deserves high praise for their dedication, running and dancing about the stage in long-sleeve attire. Showing beads of sweat, the energy never faded.

Kevin P. Hill successfully made Frozen come to life. Frozen is cherished among fans, particularly for its characters and message. Frozen teaches audiences about love, family, and the courage to embrace one’s true self.

Excitement radiated through the theater. I looked around at the audience, taking mental snapshots of children wearing Anna and Elsa dresses and singing softly to the tunes. It was the first theater experience for some! They were having the best time ever.

Frozen is the definition of a family show. Frozen is snowing on the North Shore Music Theatre stage until July 28. This is a musical you cannot miss, especially for the young ones. Buy a ticket, get a snow cone in the lobby, and enjoy an exciting time in Arendelle.
