Everybody Loves Miranda

Sex and the City

By Alexandrea CallaghanPublished 25 days ago 3 min read

Aside from Carrie, Miranda is probably the most flawed of the Sex and the City women. And thus she is one of my favorites. She is the character I probably identify with the most. She is strong, powerful, independent and she works very hard to be a woman in a man’s world as she is a lawyer. That said, her aggressive feminism is sometimes a step too far and she ends up pushing the men she cares about her away.

One of her biggest missteps is how she treats Steve. He is such an incredible boyfriend (who definitely had his issues as well) but she really treated him like crap. The first time that they are together she has a really hard time actually letting him in. Yes they existed on opposite schedules but she didn’t want to do any compromising or adjusting to accommodate existing with another person. And then yes what actually broke them up was his insecurities but she did not help matters.

The first time she sees Steve after their breakup she literally panics and runs away. It's very upsetting to watch. Then Steve shows up to her apartment and they try to be friends. Miranda and Steve trying to be friends but having insane chemistry really proves that the best relationships are best friends first. Please ignore everything that happens in the sequel series because it really sucks and reduces all the women to nothingness. Even when they get back together and things are going well she doesn’t want him in her space. Miranda is really never able to share her life with someone. I think she should have let Steve go be happy and have a family with someone else. Because the way she treats him is just not good enough. She never really loved him enough to compromise and he deserved more than the scraps that she gave him.

Miranda ends up dating a guy that Carrie dated and when he starts dumping all over Carrie while they are all out together Miranda doesn’t hesitate to stick up for her. She is fiercely loyal even to Carrie, who does not deserve it and I love that about her. With that fierce loyalty comes holding her accountable and I love it. I know that she didn’t call her out during the actual affair, but when Carrie was ready to go back to Big AGAIN, as soon as he said so Miranda finally reached a breaking point. I love that she finally pushes back, it comes way too late.

I love that her and Steve manage to be friends in the in-between bits of time where they are not together. She inspired him to open a bar and they actually manage to maintain a pretty solid friendship which just reminds everyone why they love each other so much.

Miranda is arguably the most realistic of the women. She has her routine and her ideals and though she is open minded sometimes it takes her a little push and a bit of effort to come around to other people’s way of thinking. I think that is how most people are in real life. Miranda is also fiercely loyal and an incredible friend. She is very protective over the other girls and she does her best to protect her friends. She also has the most realistic perspective. Charlotte is really idealistic and kind of lives in a dream world, Samantha is very blunt and Carrie is straight up delusional. But Miranda manages to stay pretty grounded and she offers a sometimes pessimistic but necessary perspective for the rest of the girls.
