Tips for 'The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt'

Do not trust, as enemies are everywhere.

The Witcher 3 is often described as a game with paranoiac content, and this is by no means an understatement! When we know that there are more than 250 quests, hundreds of ingredients, unique items not left out, and the number of points of interest on all the maps more than half a thousand, we understand that it is easy to get lost.

So, to serenely tackle the game and slip into the skin of a renowned witcher, you will find in this guide some tips and basic information on the game.

Each adventurer can begin his journey with the following tips that will help him get started in The Witcher 3. These tips are highly subjective.

Save regularly.

While everything is done in the game so that the immersion feels real, it is very important to get out of this immersion to raise the head of the handlebars regularly and save its progress. This advice is very basic when you think about it, but who can say that he has never lived this moment of loneliness in front of his screen when the message "you are dead" appears over the stains of blood of a purple red dripping from the window. Accentuating more of your confusion in facing the death of your hero.

Before starting a dungeon, confronting a boss, or entering hostile lands, take these innocuous seconds to save. If you are already in a tricky situation and you realize that your last backup is a long time ago, you can use the quick save key. It is then more enviable to say that you will not have to start all over again from the beginning of your quest if something goes wrong.

Manage your inventory.

Your hero is not a mule that can carry infinite weight. When you are in a city, it is always good to take stock of your inventory, only keeping the essentials to lighten your hero's load. In addition, you may find many items during a quest. It is then very difficult to know what to throw away when you must empty your inventory. The best is not to have to choose and take all that quests have to give you. Your horse may eventually be equipped with a saddle allowing him to carry a larger load as well.

Quick Trips vs. Rides

The Witcher 3 is an open world full of treasures and side quests. Walk around on horseback or on foot to find points of interest throughout the different regions of the game. It can be tempting to use the signs to travel quickly without having to ride a horse. But in the early hours of play, it is highly recommended to travel to meet people, find unusual places, and of course, fight monsters to advance your warrior skills.

Increase your knowledge by reading.

Reading in The Witcher 3 is an invaluable source of knowledge. It brings complete information of the game's world and will allow you to know a little more about the different protagonists, on the forces involved, and the different tales and rumors circulating.

Some books are dedicated to the study of creatures that populate the regions. It is very interesting to look into the strengths and weaknesses of an enemy that you would be likely to fight later on.

Add your own points of interest on the map.

While the game provides a basic 20 different types of markers, you have the option to add your own. There are three to report hazards, warnings, or simply to note standard information in the manner of a memo.

Train from the start.

If you are a beginner, we advise you to choose the options that allow you to do the tutorials. The first allows learning to move with a character seen in the third person (camera over the shoulder) during the dialogue phases in the first chapter of the game. The second allows learning the different abilities a witcher possesses. It is rather wise to control a minimum of these different abilities, such as the handling of the two swords and the use of the bombs without forgetting the spell casting via the five signs.

As you cross the different areas of the game and Gerald rises, you will be able to hone your skills in areas as varied as combat, witcher's abilities, equipment management, alchemy, haggling, and negotiation.

For the basic gameplay concepts of The Witcher 3, you will find a reminder and additional information in the following sections:

  • The five signs of the witchers,
  • the witcher's sense,
  • combat,
  • alchemy,
  • crafts and the manufacture of weapons and armor, and
  • the leveling.

Do not hesitate to enter as much as you want to understand the basics of the game.
