When I was a teen in high school, one of my favourite teachers liked to teach some students his belief in numerology. Mr. Bentley was a gentle teacher with a penchant for playing his instrument in front of the class, as well as show some students the meaning of our names.

He would take my first and last name and assign each letter a number. Then he would total the numbers together and come up with a single number. This was my first introduction to numerology.

Over the years, I would sometimes practice this numerology exercise out of boredom and quickly forgot about it.

But today, something extraordinary happened. I checked my stats on Vocal and every panel had the number 4 on it. All the major digits also totalled 4.

Is this the universe telling me something? According to one website, my seeing so many 4's means that something good is about to happen --more 4's mean more money.

In truth, I have been trying for the past month or so to succeed at affiliate marketing. Spent hours watching Youtube videos and still haven't made a single dollar. Tried affiliate marketing years ago and still no luck. One month ago, I almost got involved in an $1800 marketing schedule but backed out if it when it seemed too good to be true. Things have been rough lately.

So today, when I saw all those 4's in my stats panel, I feel a glimmer of hope with respect to my desire to make it as online digital marketer.

But is there any truth to numerology?

In fact, numerology goes back to ancient times, and our great man, Pythagoras, believed in the power of numbers to explain the world around him.

Another historical figure, St. Augustine (AD 354-430) said, " Numbers are the Universal language offered by the deity to humans as confirmation of the truth."

In Christianity, the number 3 is significant because it refers to the Holy Trinity: The Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost. There are also references to certain numbers in the Bible. For example, one would the creation of the world in 7 days. It is noted that Jesus asked 3 times if he could not be crucified, but he crucified at 3 in the afternoon.

There are numerous sites online devoted to numerology. Interested readers may wish to explore this with Ruth A. Drayer's book, where she noted that at the start of the 20th century, Mrs. L. Dow Balliett combined Pythagora's work with Biblical reference.

Clearly, numerology is not all fun and games. It's serious stuff.

Today, some buyers of real estate will carefully select their home on the basis of the house number. Some people on Youtube have a strong following where they explain why we sometimes wake up at certain times in the night.

We live with numbers every day, and it is amazing that for some people, there is spiritual significance with numbers. I, for one, am still astounded that I saw so many numbers at one sitting.

If you are interested in studying numerology, start with Pythagoras, he is considered the Father of Western Numerology. He also made an amazing discovery of the relationship between numbers and musical notes. He noted that the vibrations in stringed instruments is related to mathetics.

There are also other methods that involve the Chaldean system. Essentially, Chaldean numerology recognizes the energy changes when someone speaks or thinks. The sound of someone speaking comes out in different vibrations of different frequencies that affect the speaker and those around them. Ah, I knew it all long. Be of gentle speak, and people will be gentle, too.

This numerology business needs further study and I think the world will benefit more.
