I'm Such A Sagittarius

I wouldn't want it any other way

By Lois CPublished 3 years ago 4 min read

According to my natal chart, I'm a Sagittarius Sun, Aries ascendant, Leo moon, making me a triple fire sign. That is a lot of heat for one chart. Luckily, I have other aspects that quell some of that fire, otherwise I would be a bit much. Every sign has a ruling planet, Jupiter reigns over Sagittarius. This combination is a match made in heaven. Jupiter is all about expansion, with a focus on personal growth, optimism, and new things. The Archer's (Sagittarius) innate yearning for adventure and experience is well-served by Jupiter's influence . The Archer comes from Greek mythology, where Sagittarius is depicted as a centaur. This half human and half man wielding a bow and arrow aimed towards the sky. Creating the unique magic of the Archer, which is both earthbound and otherworldly.

My most obvious Sagittarian super power is my fierce independence and self-sufficiency. I'm a restless soul who outgrows things. I wouldn't say that I have commitment issues... I simply don't have time to stick around places and situations that no longer vibe with me. When I get to the place of being truly unhappy in any situation, I don't complain or try to fix it; I just walk away. The Kryptonite to my Sagittarius fire is boredom. Nothing makes me more irritable than being bored. The happiest I have ever been was when I was running my own business. Each day was different, and it satisfied my longing for freedom and change.

I am also a true Sagittarius in that I am fairly impatient. Nothing happens fast enough for me. I'm told this has more to do with my Aires placement than anything else. I become frustrated by exhaustive details and unnecessary nuances. I like things quick and dirty, state your business and move on. I can be a little impulsive jumping into new things without seeing the whole picture. Fueled by my Sagittarian optimism and love of adventure, I expect things will work out. Sometimes they do, sometimes, not so much... I don't stay down for long when things don't turn out as I had hoped. I brush myself off, straighten out my crown and start over. I am the queen of reinventing myself. I've done this multiple times, paving my own path without the need to be understood.

Sagittarians are known for being highly creative, hence my love of writing and photography. My fourth grade teacher, Ms. Agate, planted a seed by telling me that I should be a writer; a seed which took a long time to sprout. When I write I follow the adage, from Mark Twain, "write what you know." I pull many of my stories and characters from people in my life, some who I find endlessly entertaining. Photography also tells a story, often better than words. My favorite Ansel Adams quote is as follows "When words become unclear, I shall focus with photographs. When images become inadequate, I shall be content with silence."

Sagittarians are also known for being quick-witted. I crack myself up a hundred times a day. We are avid learners. If I'm curious about something, I will dedicate myself to learning as much as I can about the subject. I taught myself photography beginning with a simple point and shoot camera. YouTube was immensely helpful when I was learning new techniques, and later for camera and lens reviews. YouTube is the first place I start to when I want to learn anything new.

To say that a Sagittarius person loves to travel would be an understatement. I have chronic wanderlust. I once traveled for nine months in a camper across the U.S. With my dog, my cat, and my camera. It was an amazing journey. Covid has put a damper on my travels, so I am traveling via YouTube drone videos. I have been to Portugal; The Azores are stunning. The Faroe Islands are beautiful and surreal. I have also virtually traveled to Italy. I think I had a past life in Italy, because as a young child I was obsessed with being Italian. I used to ask my mom if we could “be Italian now.” She informed me I am Irish, but when I grew up, I could marry someone of Italian heritage. Um... we don't do marriage. If you find a married Sagittarian, they were probably dragged down the aisle kicking and screaming. We are the bachelors of the zodiac.

Sagittarians are brutally honest and can be blunt. I don't actually think this is a negative. You will always know exactly where you stand with me. I always warn people to never ask me what I think about something unless they want to know the truth. Sometimes I offer my opinion out without being asked. I don't have a filter. We have fiery tempers. This is probably my least favorite aspect of my sign. I describe my temper as lighting of a bunch of firecrackers all at once. It's short-lived, loud and all over the place. I'm not one to hold a grudge tough. I have learned to tame my temper over the years. It does occasionally pop up, and usually shocks the hell out of people, because I'm pretty easygoing over all.

Some of our other negative aspects are our tendency to overspend. I'm horrible with money, I always have been. There is no saving for a rainy day when you are a sunny Sagittarius. We also tend to over indulge. When I smoked, I smoked a lot. I will unashamedly eat an entire pint of Ben and Jerry's or Häagen-Dazs. No low calorie, allegedly flavorful frozen yogurt for me. I tried it once; it disappointed me. I won't make that mistake again. Give me the full fat, high calorie hug for your mouth ice cream, or nothing. Yes, I can be opinionated, even about little things like ice cream. To know a Sagittarius is to love one. We are authentic, likeable people. We are caring, helpful and fierce defenders of the underdog. We will give you our last dollar, cheer you up with a funny story, and entertain you with our antics. All the while keeping our arrow pointed up into the heavens in search of our next adventure.
