Drabble Drop : Chase

Felix was nearing the end of his shift, about to turn his patrol car towards the precinct, when a flash off to the left caught his eye.

A black car flying through the intersection, running the stop sign and obviously speeding.

He reaches over, flicks on his flashing lights and gives chase.

For twenty minutes the two cars speed down side streets, throw down corners, run red lights, until the black car misjudges, running off the road and crashes into a tree.

Felix slows, watching in shock as a child, no older than ten, clambers out from behind the wheel.

I was challenged to write a drabble of the word ‘chase'.

Wikipedia defines a drabble as follows :

A drabble is a short work of fiction of precisely one hundred words in length. The purpose of the drabble is brevity, testing the author's ability to express interesting and meaningful ideas in a confined space.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
