The frantic splashing of John’s hands carried on for what felt like an eternity. Police sirens wailed beyond his shoulders. The alarm of the 34th Avenue Bank blared even louder.
John only saw red: the police lights that had rushed up behind him and Blake, the blood that had spewed from the left of Blake’s head as a bullet passed its way through, and now, the paint that covered his hands.
Leaving Blake’s lifeless body behind, John had yanked the bag his lifelong friend once held. Only a few seconds later did a cloud of red explode, staining John’s face and hands, casting him out to the whole town. He managed to scurry to a secluded pond, hidden by tall grass, furiously attempting to wash the red from his skin. He ripped open the bags and punched the air. 200,000 dollars in cash soiled by red paint.
John only saw red: the red from his buddy’s head that had stained all over him since John wanted 50 but Blake wanted 70 for hatching the entire plan. The red of police lights quickly grew closer. Blake overlooked an important part of the robbery: the bank’s dye packs.
John only saw red.

This reminded me of Walter Moseley. You have a great grasp of language and cadence. I love stories with a lyrical quality and this definitely has that.
