The Witch's Bargain
A medieval fantasy short story
In the shadowy depths of Blackwood Forest, a young knight named Aric sought out the Witch of the Wyrd. His beloved, Lady Nymeria, had fallen into a deep, cursed sleep, and no healer could wake her.
The witch's eyes gleamed as she listened to his plea. "There is a way, but it requires a great sacrifice."
"I will do anything," Aric vowed, his voice unwavering.
The witch handed him a vial filled with shimmering liquid. "This potion will awaken her, but it will erase you from her memory."
Aric hesitated, but his love for Nymeria was stronger than his fear. He drank the potion and returned to the castle. As Nymeria's eyes fluttered open, her face flooded with confusion.
Though he was but a stranger, his kind heart and tender smile awoke in her a familiar feeling.
"Who are you?" she asked.
"I'm the man you will never forget."
