Wanda’s usually a quiet soul, one of very few words. In fact, she likes to sit in the background, watching the world live their lives.

Her family’s aware of their matriarch’s quietude, never pushing her involvement in their discussions. So, imagine their surprise at their family Christmas when she holds court at the head of the table.

Silence reigns as Wanda’s hands animate her words.

“I’ve made an important life decision,” she announces. “I’m leaving to travel this beautiful country. After living your lives for years, it’s my turn to be selfish. And no, this is not up for discussion.”

I was challenged to write a drabble of the word ‘animated'.

Wikipedia defines a drabble as follows :

A drabble is a short work of fiction of precisely one hundred words in length. The purpose of the drabble is brevity, testing the author's ability to express interesting and meaningful ideas in a confined space.

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
