The Snow Inspector

Live

Legs apart, arms outstretched. Breathing, face to the sky, Arch stopped for a moment to appreciate the snow falling on his face. Soft, gentle, frozen reminders of the mission he set for himself.

Here, now Arch was no longer just Arch. Arch decided he was now ‘The Snow Inspector’.

Arch smiled and wondered how long the snow will last. He snapped into action. He had a job to do. The snow gently but persistently fell, gentle yet thick, blurring his vision of the hut in the distance.

‘Better crack on’, he thought. ‘Time is a ticking’.

Arch gathered up his portable hand freezer, opened it and gathered a few slides. He held one out to the snow and let it fall upon the glass, and tucked it away safely in a slot within the freezer. Rinse and repeat action on the next two slides, in the freezer, locked and safe.

Time to get back to the hut. The wind started picking up at the very idea. ‘On on’, he thought.

‘The things you do to be a snow inspector’ Arch thought, loving every minute of it. ‘Battling the elements. Gotta love it.‘

‘Ironic’ he thought, as he reconsidered the elements at play. He trudged on, shaking off the excess snow from his oilskin jacket while pushing his way into the hut.

He walked to another door that took him into a laboratory come recording suite.

Arch reached for the mike and the microscope:

‘Live to you, from The Snow Inspector…’
