Sylvansoul Warden: The Spirit of the Forest

Gideon Thornfield's Guide to Extraordinary Creatures | #001

Ah, my first entry!

I came across this creature when I was chasing a small shimmerwing and didn’t realize I was getting too deep into the woods.

Suddenly, the forest grew quieter, the air thicker with the scent of hidden magic. That’s when I saw a creature that caught my eye.

At first glance, it seemed like a mere pup with a soft, velvety coat that shimmered under the dappled sunlight filtering through the dense canopy.

Its fur, however, was unlike any I’d ever seen. Intricate patterns of glowing glyphs swirled across its skin, weaving tales of forgotten spells and lost realms. These markings pulsed gently, as if the creature’s very essence was a living, breathing spell.

Its eyes, a deep, unsettling red, seemed to pierce through the fabric of reality itself. Small horns protruded from its forehead, adding an air of ancient wisdom.

Despite its diminutive size and dog-like appearance, there was an undeniable aura of immense spiritual power surrounding it. It moved with an ethereal grace, each step in tune with the heartbeat of the forest.

I felt an inexplicable connection between the creature and the woods, as if they shared a single soul.

Then, the creature noticed me. Its eyes began to glow more intensely, casting a crimson light upon the forest floor.

A sense of foreboding washed over me, and instinctively, I knew I had to run.

In that moment, the forest itself seemed to come alive, branches twisting and leaves rustling as if responding to the creature’s silent command. Other beasts, hidden in the shadows, stirred and moved as one with the creature’s will.

I fled, heart pounding, back towards safety. Yet, even as I ran, I couldn’t shake the feeling that the creature was still with me. It was a guardian, a force of nature, and a reminder that some powers are best left undisturbed.

Sylvansoul warden. That’s what I named the beast, and I hope I don’t cross eyes with it ever again.
