Most families will have a yearly barbecue or picnic to get together. Our family goes bird watching. I suppose one could say that it is different, even wonderful, how we all share this interest.

But the true meaning of our meetings stems from a more insidious interest that we share.

In dealing with the Matriarch of our family, we will step on each other’s backs to suck up all of her attention. She is very sparse in the giving of it.

I quiet myself as I spy it. The San Clemente Loggerhead Shrike! I touch my grandmothers’ shoulder.

I won.

I love this story! The kid in your story seeking approval from the matriarch reminded me of Encanto a little bit.

Loved this, how unique! And the title choice was excellent 😁
