Part 1

They expected ice and snowfall for most of the constant dark days spent traveling to their goal. The unearthing of a treasure of ancient origins, perhaps even an as yet undiscovered civilisation. The Echo Team, as they were wont to call themselves, were oblivious to their surroundings in the twilight beyond the headlights they all wore.

As they steadily walked with ski poles and walking skis, they allowed only one sled dog team and person without skis to carry all their worldly goods and food.

Suddenly they heard a scream! Trudy, the Teams best hiker and Archaeozoologist was visibly shaken by what she was seeing in front of her.

Trudy said, “My light stick fell out of my backpack and some loose snow fell away where it landed in the crevasse we just came to the end of. There’s a good size cave in the crevasse!”

Dr. Cody Stonewell concurred. As he looked down at the shallow end of the crevasse there was a medium size pitch black opening appearing in the right side wall of ice. Some very long icicles hung from the top of the entrance.

An ominous tremulous wailing sound came from deep in the earth, as if wind was coming from another opposing direction inside this strange pit.
