"I'll find a way back," she said, silver tears spilling onto her glasslike cheeks.

"You won't have to," he replied.

Ethics be damned. He would fight every piece of legislation, study every last text on quantum computing, and bribe anyone he could to save her. The Void couldn't claim her, not fully - not when his fervor surpassed any government decree.

"We don't have long," she said. Her silver tears stopped, emotionless.

"I will find a way," he said. "I will bring you back online."

Steel determination rocked Dr. Kines as Nova, his magnum opus, logged out and fell lifeless.
