Jeremy blinked, wondering if he'd heard correctly. "Halla-who-da-whatnow?"
Jasper, his best friends since they were crawling, groaned. "Hallowthankmas. That bastard time of year where you don't get to breathe between being bombarded with corporations trying to sell themed junk you only need once per year, celebration preparations, Hallmark movies that are the same plot with different window dressing, and attempting to juggle conflicting family commitments without starting a family feud."
Upon reflection, the comalgamation of the three holidays made sense. Halloween fell at the end of October, then Thanksgiving barely three weeks after that, then most of December was dedicated to trying to fit in all the family visits, as well as anyone unfortunate enough to have a birthday around the same time.
Jeremy nodded sagely, as if he'd never imagined a world where this neologism didn't exist. "Not to mention all the companies trying to wrap up for the two-week shut down, as if it doesn't happen the same way every year, and yet somehow the bigwigs never get any better at planning for a smooth transition."
And wasn't that the truth? This year alone, Jasper was having to fit in the work Festive Party, actually shopping for the ever-growing number of family members requiring gifts, family dinners for his side and his in-laws, two school pagents/plays/whatevers, and the assortment of religious obligations.
It was enough to make a body cry just thinking about it. "Maybe Scrooge had the right idea, after all."
Jereymy Laughed. "Hah, Humbug, right?"
