Lola is a young, beautiful, fox red labrador. She lives on Honeysuckle Farm, with Farmer Mike. Lola is a very happy dog, but sometimes she gets lonely and longs for someone to play with, as Farmer Mike is getting old, so he often has an afternoon nap, this is when Lola wants a playmate. So one afternoon on the farm Lola decided that she would find someone to play with.

So Lola headed out into the farm, her first stop was at the stables where Bob the horse was.

“Bob, please will you play with me?” asked Lola, hopefully.

“Nay, nay! Can't you see that I am busy eating my hay!” said Bob, coldly.

Lola went to the stable next door, to ask Toby the donkey.

“Toby, please will you play with me?” said Lola, eagerly.

“Eeyore, eeyore! No, can't you see that I'm eating my carrots!” said Toby, snootily.

Lola headed across the farmyard where Meg the cat was laying in the sunshine.

“Meg, please will you play with me?” said Lola, kindly.

”Meow, meow. No, I don't play with dogs. Anyway I am topping up my tan!” said Meg, in a diva like manner!

Next Lola went to the pig sty, where Miranda the pig lived. Miranda could be very grumpy, but Lola felt so lonely that she thought it was worth the risk of asking Miranda. Lola tiptoed into the sty, as she wasn't sure what mood Miranda would be in!

“Erm, hello. Miranda, please will you play with me?” asked Lola, nervously.

“Oink, oink! Noooo, go away! I am happily bathing in my mud!” Miranda shouted!

Poor Lola, she got such a scare from Miranda shouting at her that she ran into the field next to the sty to look for a place to hide. “Moo, moo. What is wrong Lola?” said Chloe the cow.

“I just want someone to play with me. Will you play with me Chloe?” said Lola, pleadingly.

“Moo, moo. No, I am busy eating grass!”

Lola saw Simon the sheep.

“Will you play with me Simon?”

“Baa, baa. No, no, no!” said Simon, grumpily.

The only animal left to ask was Jeremy the duck. Who was a loner at the best of times, but Lola was so desperate to play with someone, so she went looking for him. Jeremy was swimming in the pond.

“Jeremy, please will you play with me?” “Quack, quack! Leave me in peace. Quack off!” said Jeremy, rather rudely.

With nobody to play with Lola felt more lonely than ever. With her tail between her legs she unhappily headed back to the farm house. Surely her beloved Farmer Mike would be awake after his nap. Lola knew that he would play with her.

Inside the farm house Farmer Mike wasn't anywhere to be found. Lola looked everywhere. Oh no, where was he? Lola was very upset that none of the other animals wanted to play with her, but she tried not to take it to heart, she knew that it was because she is so young and energetic, too much for the older farm animals, they like to relax!

But now Lola can't find Farmer Mike.

“I am all alone, I just want someone to play with,” Lola thought.

Then in walked Farmer Mike. He had gone out whilst Lola was in the field. Lola was delighted to see him, she wagged her tail and licked his face!

“I have a surprise for you Lola! Come outside with me,” said Farmer Mike, happily.

Lola followed Farmer Mike outside.

There in the farm yard to Lola’s delight was a golden labrador puppy, young, energetic and eager to play, just like Lola!

“I'm getting old now Lola, so I can't play with you as much. So here is your new friend, Barney. Now you will always have someone to play with!” said Farmer Mike.

Lola was so happy, she ran towards Barney, Barney ran towards Lola. They both ran around the farm yard, jumping up and down, wagging their tails, happily playing. From that day on Lola never felt lonely ever again and she spent every afternoon playing with Barney. They both lived happily ever after.
