Shrouded by many tourist attractions like natural beauty, adventurous escapades, authentic events and leisure activities, the United Arab Emirates’ little-known city Ras Al Khaimah is fast becoming a tourist hub today. This alluring place offers diverse activities and events to enthral travellers throughout the year. Read on to see the best time to pack your bags and jet off to Ras Al Khaimah.

November to February (Winter)

This is the peak season in Ras Al Khaimah as masses flock to this site to enjoy the sun while leaving the cold surroundings of their home territories behind. With the temperature ranging between 25°C and 29°C, this is the perfect time to engage in some outdoor activities. If you are looking for some unique things to do in Ras Al Khaimah try camel racing. This is a popular winter sport which is held at the Al Sawan racetrack and is played on Friday mornings usually between October and April. Though horse racing comes to mind at first, camel racing offers a different experience as you watch these ships of the desert racing through the sandy tracks with vibrant electronic robot jockeys on their backs.  Another event to look forward to is the Triathlon which takes off in January. This incredible sports event comprises swimming, cycling and running through some of the nation’s most scenic locations. Music events too are aplenty during this period with beach parties armed with DJ music throbbing through the nights. It is a good idea to book in advance if you plan to head there during winter. Properties like Anantara Mina Al Arab Ras Al Khaimah Resort are nestled on natural beaches which make great sunbathing spots.

March to May (Spring)

Life begins to bloom around this time of the year as the cool climate fades away opening doors to more humid weather. The average temperature comes up to around 33°C then. Outdoor activities are in abundance as you can engage in hiking and exploring ventures. Visit Al Jazirat Al Hamra ghost town which takes you back to the majestic past. A haunting location associated with the mysterious bygone era, this forgotten town makes the perfect spot to capture the crimson and gold hues of the setting sun. For a truly adrenaline-pumping venture take a ride on the lengthiest zipline on Earth. This event which provides you with a once-in-a-lifetime experience is located on the Hajar Mountains at 2,83km. It is around 1680 metres high up the Arabian Gulf. Desert safaris are another favourite pastime during this time of year. You can explore the golden sands and dunes of the desert. If you love swimming, this is the ideal weather for a dip in the sea. Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan, too happens around this time of year so there will be ample food and celebrations everywhere. Remember to attend some traditional performances and sink your teeth into delicacies like biryani, kebabs, samosas, pakoras and dates stuffed with nuts.

June to August (Summer)

If you are conscious about how much you spend, then the best time to visit Ras Al Khaimah is during the summer. The scorching heat which reaches as far as 41°C keeps most tourists at bay. Since this is off-peak, prices of hotels and other lodgings too are low. However, the drawback is that there are only a few outdoor activities available during this period. If you are a watersport lover, you are in for a treat as jet-skiing, kayaking, snorkelling, banana boat riding and parasailing are available during this time. Moving onto the desert you can also try your hand at dune bashing and sandboarding.  If you tire of the outdoors, move to the city area where there are museums and shopping malls to explore.

September to October (Autumn)

Though it is quite humid, temperatures are beginning to lower as winter approaches. The temperature can soar as far as 36°C during daytime and fall to around 25°C as dusk sets in. The desert and beaches are, again, centres of attraction during these months. Hiking can be undertaken during the latter part of the season. Al Hijri, the Islamic New Year, is celebrated around this time and you can witness some cultural events and experience the hospitality of the locals.
