Better Together

Introduction

The hashtag #BetterTogether was part of the initial Vocal Social Society manifesto and mission statement and working together and supporting each other is a great way to make progress and build things, but we all have to take part and do things together.

Why Better Together?

We all need time to ourselves but if we want to build, it is better to work as a team. We all have different kinds of skills and we should use those to work towards the goal we are pursuing.

I see a lot of people who work together to create stories and have been asked for my opinion and input into other people’s stories but this is never reciprocated, but I still do it because it is better to work together. I have had a few wonderful and successful poetic collaborations and again that is something that I have loved doing, enjoying creating something with a writing partner.

I am not sure if I could do it with fiction but I recently had a music playlist semi-collaboration that worked well and became my fourth most-read story. That is an example of successfully working together and embracing the #BetterTogether concept.

Better Together In Facebook Vocal Groups

Anyone can set up a Facebook Group, and the Vocal Groups are no exception but they do need maintenance and this is another instance where #BetterTogether comes into play. Some people can do the mundane tasks, others can direct the group by sharing ideas, others can speak with group members, welcoming them and answering questions and reassuring new members.

Together we learn and share things we find and that enables us to keep the groups going and growing. We look for ways to automate things, we schedule posts so we don’t have to do things manually, although some things have to be done manually but we do all this together so that we do not just end up going under.

And that brings me to another aspect of #BetterTogether

Better Together Looking Out For Others

We all have down times and sometimes that means we need to be alone, but we also need to be part of a support network or friends and colleagues who will give us help, love, encouragement and a shoulder to lean on when we need one. I am the worst for not asking for help, but in the groups I am involved with we have so many empathic and caring people who are always there to help and encourage others and I see this and it fills me with hope. We all need to be on top of things for ourselves and for our friends, if we are not %100 we cannot be there for our friends.

Better Together For A Better Future

I see a lot of people who want to be off grid, and ironically sharing it on Facebook. They say they don’t want neighbours or contact with people, but then want people to read their work.

We need to work together and encourage each other to create art and share it with our friends and the world outside our windows.

If we do this we can create our own success but we can’t do it on our own, we are best working together to create our magnum opus, and when we have done that, with the support and encouragement of friends we can help them with theirs and we can find our way to the next level.

In this way, we will always be #BetterTogether
