HOW TO STAND UP FOR YOURSELF

Personally developing yourself 😉

By OJI CHIEMELA DIVINE Published 11 days ago • 2 min read

Hey everyone, we live in a world corrupted by sin. Sin has tainted everything, and every human, including you and me, has a sinful nature. No one had to teach you to misbehave as a child; it came naturally. In contrast, you had to be repeatedly taught to be good. Many believe we are inherently good but occasionally do bad things. However, we are fundamentally flawed and continue to sin. Only God's principles and commandments have guided humanity towards goodness. As David wrote in Psalm 51:5: [Psalm 51:5]

Living among sinful people means we will encounter those who might treat us poorly. It's likely happened to you and to me. Ephesians 6:12 reminds us: [Ephesians 6:12] Evil operates behind the scenes, influencing the world beyond our sight. Jesus experienced this during His crucifixion, understanding the depth of human cruelty, which is why He said in Luke 23: [Luke 23:34]

People often behave rudely or selfishly because of their upbringing or personal struggles. In dealing with such behavior from a Biblical perspective, it's essential to discern God's will. Sometimes Jesus responded with silence, other times with confidence, and even called out the Pharisees harshly (Matthew 12:34). Today, Christians might face criticism for such bluntness because society is more sensitive. However, harsh words are sometimes necessary for understanding (Matthew 12:35-36).

When confronting a bully, be wise in your speech and actions, maintaining innocence while being shrewd (Matthew 10:16). Stand up for yourself, recognizing that the devil's attacks require active resistance (James 4:7). In heated moments, remain calm to act in the Spirit, not in the flesh. Listen carefully to understand the true issue before responding (James 1:19-20). Speak boldly and confidently, as David did against Goliath, always grounded in truth and grace (Colossians 4:6).

If someone is too emotional to think objectively, redirect the conversation gently to diffuse tension, then return to the issue with love and understanding. Your words have immense power, capable of breaking down or building up (Proverbs 18:21). Verbal abuse can be more damaging than physical, so use your words to uplift (Ephesians 4:29). Many Christians are overly judgmental, failing to judge righteously with love, thus driving people away from faith. Speak to build others up, bringing every thought captive to Christ's control.

When discussions are unproductive, politely end them and suggest revisiting later. Being kind yet confident in Christ means not letting people walk over you. Turn the other cheek when appropriate, understanding the bigger picture and striving to live peaceably with all (Romans 12:18). Recognize that our fight is not against each other but against the evil influencing people (Ephesians 4:17-20).

Share the gospel with truth and love, avoiding quick judgment. Understand others' perspectives to effectively communicate God's message (1 Corinthians 9:20-22). Defend your faith when led by the Holy Spirit, not out of insecurity. Everyone is equally valued by God, and He desires all to be saved, regardless of their worldly achievements (Romans 2:11).

In a world often hostile to Christian beliefs, never be ashamed of your faith. Stand up for your beliefs confidently, knowing they align with Scripture and the Holy Spirit's guidance (Romans 1:16). Understand the difference between self-confidence and God-confidence to transform your life. Bye!
