What Are The Benefits Of Flower Recycling Technology?

By using flower recycling technology, floral waste collected from religious places is recycled to make useful products like scented sticks that can be used for worship.

This article is about flower cycling technology that has turned the flower waste from religious places into an industry and a source of income for many rural poor. The journey started from religious places, and the surprising thing is that it concludes on the religious places.

Significance of Flowers in Religion

It hardly matters, which religion you follow as you will never go to a place of worship without flowers, which you can easily buy at cheap prices from shops at nearly all religious places. And you can buy red roses, white lilies, marigolds, and even lotus to offer to God. You happily buy red roses and move ahead to offer the roses to God. But you don’t think what happens to those roses, lilies, and marigolds after they are removed from the places of worship.

Discarded Flowers

Once the roses are offered, they are removed to make place for marigolds. After removing, they are kept in bags and thrown into rivers. The roses you bought would pollute the water because they contain pesticides in rich amounts. They are treated with chemicals, so they remain younger for a long time. In this way, millions of tons of religious waste were discarded into rivers, before the Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants took the initiative of preserving the environment from religious waste without hurting the religious sentiments of the people.

Should people stop offering flowers to places of worship?

No, you cannot ask worshippers to stop offering roses, marigolds, lilies and other plant products. But, there has to be an end to the pollution the religious waste is spreading. And the solution to the problem came like a blessing from God. It is decided to recycle the religious waste to make it useful and use it again at the same place from it originated.

Council for Scientific and Industrial Research also played a crucial role in developing the concept of recycling religious waste. The first project was started in Lucknow, where two religious places were spotted and the discarded flowers collected for recycling. It is a detailed process where the waste is turned into scented sticks used for worshipping.

Employment For Rural Poor

Most of the recycling plants were created close to religious places, and most religious places are located in rural areas. So, the recycling plants employed rural poor. And the good thing is that this technology doesn’t require complex learning or training.

Advancement in science and technology has made it possible to make scented sticks from religious waste. The raw material comes from places of worship, and it is available in millions of tons. Also, the raw material is available in a hassle-free and affordable manner. It is transported to the closest recycling plant, where it is turned into useful materials.

Cheap labour for flower recycling plants is available in rural areas. These people require little training that they can get in the plant. And working in these plants is like an additional income for the rural poor. In other words, running these plants is profitable for both the employer and the employees.

How Are Flowers Recycled?

The process starts with breaking the flowers into different parts, and each part is processed according to its uses. The leaves are dried and powdered to make scented sticks sold at religious places. These sticks are prepared with eco-friendly material hence they are 100% environment friendly. Other parts of the flowers are used for making other products like fertilizers. India science TV channel has the complete report on the process.

The pilot project of recycling religious waste started in Lucknow, and its success encouraged the government to introduce the project to other religious places in the country. It is the best way to save the environment from getting spoiled by religious waste. Also, it is necessary as millions of tons of religious waste are dumped in rivers to decay, and these flowers release toxic material on decaying and pollute the water bodies.

How much employment does a recycling plant generates?

A recycling plant requires a large workforce, and there is a need for more plants. Opening more plants would mean more employment. Also, the scientific community at the Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants is working hard to find more uses for recycled flowers.

For example, scientists encourage people working in this field to come forward with interesting ideas of using religious waste. An NGO from Maharashtra made fertilizers from recycled flowers. The NGO approached the scientific community for approval, and the community approved the fertilizer.

Is there any drawback of recycled florist products?

Flower cycling technology is the latest technology that can turn religious waste into an opportunity for generating employment. Since there is no dearth of religious waste, the recycling plants can keep running without any delay. These plants use only green technology. They rely on eco-friendly technology to make eco-friendly products.

The scented sticks made with recycled flowers are 100% safe for use. They have no toxic content that can in any way spoil the environment. Even the smoke that the scented sticks produce isn’t harmful to humans. Worshippers can light those sticks in places of worship without any fear or worries.

If you want to know more about the recycling flowering waste then you should go to the India science TV channel where you can find a detailed report on how technology is changing the face of religious places.
