Enchantment of a Hummingbird
It was cold outside in the deep capacity of the arctic caves, where underground the mad scientist Mr Freeze had last been seen. Isolated from being exposed to toxic chemicals and excommunicated for being a criminal, he had endured many years still practicing his chemistry. He missed his wife Nora who did not survive her isolation chamber, and it became too cold to exist in the frozen world anymore. He made plans to relocate to the moon and build a breathable living structure. There with his beloved polar bears he began working on a idea of creating a brain enhancement formula that would allow animals to speak. The chemical structure would consist of only organic material. He became a bee keeper and was delighted that the honeycombs adapted to the synthetic moon trees. The bees imported were revived from ancient amber, still holding the imprint of dna from prehistoric bees. The genetic code within the dna he discovered had a series of short and long dashes that resembled the ancient iChing based around the Yang Yang. Could they communicate in this manner, understanding the related elements of summer & winter, wind & heaven, fire & thunder? He thought a bee could have the awareness of the earth, and even know heaven. He then recorded the vocal patterns of his bees and when transferred to his oscilloscope he could see the buzz sound as a long dash, and the zzzzt sound as a short dash. It was indeed a electrical phenomenon of extra sensory perception that the ancient bees could have invented although they were all drones. His Queen bee he had imported from Madagascar where she obtained a unique bubble of flashing light that twinkled as she sat on her throne inside the hive. She was as rare as a cicada bug that mysteriously grows glitter upon her wings. He could have studied dolphins or parrots to learn animal language, but he wanted to start with a electrical specimen that had the power of electrical current. He wanted to transfer the bee voltage where he could feel it’s electricity and did so by constructing a wooden river table that he poured honey into, sealing it with added lighting. Working on the moon in zero gravity was time consuming as his movements were slower underneath the dome of a sunlamp lit laboratory. He hadn’t worn his ice helmet since he left the frozen wasteland, as the new environment allowed him to breathe without it. Existing within the dome of electrical generators was unnatural, another reason why he wanted to create bee energy. The Department of Justice knew he was there, as well as his rival, Batman, who paid him sweet annual visits just to see how a man could hold up on the moon. It was good for some light conversation as the world below revolved making him feel like a Superhero. He still loved his Polar Bears who adapted well to the lunar surface, giving him the notion to play Dr Doolittle, if one could talk to the animals, it might free his ball and chain. The key was the bees, but a land animal such as his bears would only hear noise, not capable of deciphering a i Ching code. It was like a seashell that hears the sound of the ocean when held up to the ear. How the shell keeps the sound within its chamber is another mystery that takes time to manifest. Moon water had appeared in the bear’s habitat where they bathed inside the crater. The good ole boys from the police department delivered fish packages for them which they ate along with homemade honey. After awhile the bears did start to communicate with their paws in the moon sand in a series of long and short dashes. Freeze was pleased that they had learned this from the honey, as they progressed in time to a written bear language. In order for they to speak, he thought he needed to add something from a bird to the honey. Eureka! He thought of the little bird that wings moved almost in a mechanical rhythm, the Hummingbird. He added hummingbird nectar to the honey. To his discomfort nothing manifested, until one day he spotted someone walking outside his compound. It wasn’t difficult tracking the footprints in the moon dust, as the moon had grown in size in his years of ostracism. Giant craters hurled at him from shadowy peaks that made the powdery dust seem alien. Then underneath a pillar, he spotted a landed rocket ship with Russian insignia. Opening the hatch, he found two Cosmonauts who grinned a strong greeting to the estranged Mr Freeze. Freeze studied them for a moment taking in the scenery. Vot are you looking at? One who’s name was Yuri asked. Mr Freeze said, Shouldn’t your walls have religious icons? Ve don’t hang them anymore, we have better things to do. The one named Boris replied. Mister, whoever you are, ve are not alone. Yuri motioned to the hall leading to other rooms. There in the murky moon mist stood a female alien that Freeze found most intriguing. Don’t worry about them, her eyes spoke with her lips not moving. Freeze gave her a long look, noticing that she too was a frozen spirit, he asked who she was. They found me in my capsule in a deep sleep and revived me. She glided to another compartment, Freeze followed leaving Yuri and Boris to dissolve in the background. She floated in the air drawing him closer. They think I am a ancient entity, being in stasis for a millennium, the original Cleopatra. Her eyes were like fire, holding his attention. Do you want to see the city? There’s a city? Freeze hadn’t seen one. But of course* She drifted out of the hatch door like a puff of smoke with Freeze following reluctantly until they were in a valley he hadn’t known to exist. There in the sunlit sand he saw what looked like crystalline remnants of a past settlement. A ancient rock formation city that crumbled shards of skeleton domes that made him wonder what type of alien life had existed there. There he found a crystal alter that had a glowing specular also made of fine crystals. Next to it stood inside a case of glass, a glistening Pope hat small enough for a alien. The mysterious girl tried it on, dancing through the air laughing in the wind. Funny, Freeze had never heard wind upon the moon, yet it sounded like the arctic wind he wanted to forget. The memory of its lonely sound isolating his thoughts until he felt a tap on his shoulder. What are you doing on the moon? Her big eyes pleaded. Realizing she had been alone too long he motioned her to follow him to his compound. He told her about his exile, his science and his polar bears. Once inside the moon house he led her to the bears, showing her his potion while explaining his theory of it containing the remedy for speech. She listened intently then reached out her frail hand for the potion. Drinking it down in Freeze’s amazement, it gave her a power to talk to the animals. Laying her hands upon the blue eyed creature, blending her mind and locking her thoughts, instructing the bear to speak. It created a magic spell as slowly the bear began to speak. Freeze was almost frozen in Awe as the bear obeyed the girl, saying, Yes Master. Freeze asked his pet if he knew more. The bear looked out at the moon’s surface and told, I live on the moon Master. Freeze awarded his bear with a fish. This was just the beginning of a warm relationship between man & animal, thanks to a woman. Her gift gave her the title of Mother Nature of the Moon Goddess as she would dance in the moon dust as a unwinged spirit. Freeze felt he should marry her after solving his science equations, and so it was. She did remind him of Nora, renewing his empty heart where their matrimonial ceremony took place within the crystal cathedral that became a told fairytale throughout the world. And Dats da end ! 🐻❄️🐻❄️
