Heat Advisory

Don’t Feel Like Being Vocal

TODAY

It is roaring roasting, roaring heat.

93 to 95°F in an area of the country that is considered very hot when it’s 85 outside. Our plants and bodies are not used to this. I know it’s hotter elsewhere but this heat is unusual here although it is becoming the norm!

It is bright outside, BLUE, with no clouds. No sign of rain or cooling. The brightness makes my eyes and my head hurt. My eyes are hypersensitive to bright light. It can be sunlight, or a spotlight or a headlight; even bright lights inside a store. I wear dark sunglasses, sometimes inside a restaurant or a store. I don’t even want to sit outside, not even in the shade until it cools off at night; but because but my head hurts, I don’t even wanna do that. I guess I’ll watch House of the Dragon.

I see people walking their tiny dogs on sidewalks. They wear shoes, but don’t think of the dog paws burning on that hot pavement. The heat radiating back up to the stomach so close to the ground, making them ill or giving them heatstroke. Why is that? I know younger people don’t watch TV; they watch streaming programs and they probably don’t listen to news on streaming. But there are warnings everywhere this time of year about leaving children and pets in locked vehicles in the sun while you go shopping; there are warnings about your dog being walked in the heat with nothing to protect their feet and not having enough water and getting heatstroke .

I saw a man selling puppies 🤦‍♀️sitting in the shade in 95° heat near Costco. 🚫 I wanted to call the police, but I didn’t think they would come and … what could they do?

I don’t feel like reading Vocal stories or writing. My head hurts; my eyes hurt. I wonder if eyedrops will help. I’m dictating this piece on my iPhone.

My head hurts even though I drank lots of water. Others are also complaining of headaches or not feeling well. We have air conditioning but any jaunt outside in these extreme temps affects us. There is a heat advisory that flits on my phone daily. Arthritis in my neck and spine make turning my head hurt. Looking down too much at the phone or reading makes it hurt to then raise my head.

It is roaring roasting, roaring heat. I don’t feel like reading Vocal stories or writing. My head hurts; my eyes hurt. I’m dictating this piece on my iPhone.

Oh, did I already say that?

I think I’ll watch House of the Dragon.

Thanks for dropping in! I’m not looking for sympathy; just saying the heat is extreme and I can’t concentrate to read or write; and this piece is disjointed, I know.

If you didn’t read my poem for the happy anniversary acrostic challenge it’s above. It also has to do with the over-zealous heat the planet now seems to have every day. There are forest fires everywhere in the western states of the United States. They came earlier in the Pacific Northwest; we used to tell people don’t come out here till after the Fourth of July. Now it has changed; it’s earlier and earlier every year when the rain stops and the heat hovers. It’s almost as if we get droughts and then the rain, like in Africa. If someone flicks a cigarette out of their car, it starts the grassy banks next to the freeway on fire. Because we don’t have enough rain now the grass is super dry and straw like so anything can start a fire. Our state has declared a drought so we must conserve water.

Really disappointed about these pets. Specially, when they are with fur, it is horrible. Thanks Andrea for this great reminder!

Great piece I live in the North east so I feel you. We went from low seventies to above 90 in a day

Good story. I know how you feel. I was raised in Pennsylvania, but now live in Louisiana where the heat advisories are in the 110 to 115 degree range with high humidity. It's horrible.

we should take care of our pets in harsh weather.

Disjointed prose accurately represents a disjointed world, in which theory and practice do not correspond: we will all boil together alas. On a more trivial note, what do you make of _House of the Dragon_? I must say, I have not found it to be as riveting as the other adaptations of Martin's work that have emerged to date. Tyrion's barbed sarcasm was just grand!
