JUST A SIX YEAR OLD GIRL

JonBenet Ramsey

I absolutely love this challenge. It may be my favorite thus far. I am an "Unsolved Mystery, Forensic Files, True Crime, Real Crime, FBI Files, Real Stories, Monster’s," etc buff. Many of these stories are sad and horrendous. The fact that most remain unsolved can sometimes be gut wrenching. Investigations at times are long and hard, and it is a known fact if the killer isn’t found within the first 48 hours, the case may never be solved. Although you have ideas of who the culprit could be, it is still pertinent that everyone in relation to the victim (not just family members) be considered a suspect before you point fingers. If all avenues are not fully investigated and crossed out, this can lead the investigation into many problems the judicial system can’t even begin to pull the foot out of their mouth, and/behind.

I particularly don’t research things. I like to give my own perspective based off my intellect, but when it comes to murder investigations, you need a lot more than knowledge and intuition.

Conspiracy theorists don’t particularly go along with the status quo. Usually, these kinds of theories are an out of the box concept or perspective. There were many in the case of JonBenet Ramsey.

Major mistakes were made in the JonBenet Ramsey case by the Boulder Police Department and District Attorney’s Office. JonBenet Ramsey’s case is still unsolved to this day. There have been recent new breaks within the case, but because of the controversy and conspiracies, it’s almost as if the Police Department feels it’s too "taboo" to touch. According to the April 2021 Dr. OZ show, the Boulder Police Department released a comment stating the Benet case was still an “open investigation.” The half brother to the victim reports the case could easily be solved, and they are not following up on any leads his private investigation has brought to the surface.

For so many years the Boulder Police and District Attorney Office believed somehow the parents were involved. This posed so many questions with case, and the media throughout the years? It has even jeopardized the reputation of all family members there that night. Not even the nine-year old little brother gets a pass.

Here’s what is reported to happen the late evening of December 25, 1996, and early morning hours of December 26, 1996.

The mother, Pat Ramsey, awoke in the early morning hours of December 26, 1996, and discovered JonBenet was missing from her room. A brief search of the house turned up a ransom note, but no JonBenet. JonBenet’s nine-year-old brother was awakened by his mother frantically running and yelling in the home. When Pat entered her son’s room, she informed him of what was going on. He stayed in his room, lying awake in bed. By his statements on the Dr. Phil in 2016, he appeared to be worried and afraid at the time. There were thoughts of his sister hiding somewhere and believing she would be found alive.

As the night went on, Pat’s call to 911 seemed very genuine and desperate for police to arrive. The mansion the family lived in was very confusing and composed of a lot of rooms. The mother and father were asleep on the third floor. The children’s bedroom was on the second floor. The first floor was consistent with a living room, dining room, and kitchen. The basement was exceptionally large and full of compartmental rooms.

When the Police arrived, a search of the home was conducted. The mother, Pat, called over a bunch of friends to help console her during the ordeal. It was believed at first to be a kidnapping, due to the ransom note. Police did not think to conceal the home and property at the time. Because of the time of year, they were short staff, and immediately arrived on duty without consulting the lead officer on duty who wanted a plain vehicle (instead of police vehicle) in front of the home. So there were major mistakes from the beginning. The snow in the front of the home did not show footprints and there was believed to be no forced entry. Later on, there were some theories that proved the perpetrator entered the home from the rare where there was no snow. There was a broken window and suitcase proving this theory. Also neighbors reported hearing a loud noise, consistent with the grate being moved in order to enter the home through the basement window. Questions arose on whether the parents or their son, heard, saw anything or anyone around or inside the home. Everyone said no.

Because of the home being so large, there was no way to keep sight of all the individuals inside. Time went by without further notification from the kidnapper, and so the detective on duty requested the house be checked again. This was another mistake. Once on duty, the police were supposed to clear the home and do the search themselves. After six hours of being inside the home (1pm) a more detailed search of the basement was done by JonBenet’s father and friend. This is when he unlocked the wine cellar door and saw JonBenet’s blanket. As he ran closer, he realized JonBenet was underneath. The father snatched JonBenet from the floor and rushed her upstairs into the living room underneath the Christmas tree, where they deemed her dead. Rigor mortis was already setting in which meant she was gone for hours. Some say the father ran immediately to where JonBenet was, as if he knew she was there. I say, when the second search was ordered, what did the detective say to alert the father to check other sections of basement.

It is also a known fact bodies are covered when the perpetrator knew or was remarkably close to the victim.

This was no longer a kidnapping investigation, but a murder. Now the home had to be fully investigated after the crime scene had been contaminated. Not only was the body removed from its placement, but there were plenty of people in the home for hours that contributed to more pieces of the investigation to eliminate. At least the photos of the property were efficient evidence.

During the autopsy, the undigested pieces of pineapple is what gave investigators a clue. The mother denied giving JonBenet pineapples before bed, but there is a photo of the bowl with the pineapples and milk inside, as well as the fingerprints of JonBenet and mother, Pat, on the side. The mother adamantly denied she gave JonBenet the pineapples before bed. We have three scenarios in this case. The first case scenario is that the mother is lying and fixed the pineapples, JonBenet fixed it herself and the mother’s fingerprints are old, or the perpetrator used gloves to fix the food for her, and the mother’s prints are old. Either way, someone fixed the pineapples for JonBenet.

The condition of the body was even more disturbing. There were two significant suitcases and rooms within the basement. One room is believed to be where JonBenet was killed, the other where she was placed. Around JonBenet’s neck was a garrot pulled tight by a broken paint brush on the other end of the cord. Not only was she strangled but as well as bludgeoned. The coroner doesn’t know whether or not she died from the strangulation or upon being hit on the head, but there were no traces of HER blood found on or around the body. Another theory was that the body was wiped clean and that the bed sheets were changed, but this was disproven. The bed contained the same fabric JonBenet was found in. There was also no urine found on the bedsheets but found on the body. JonBenet, was believed to be sexually assaulted, tased, and ducked taped. Her fingernails contained DNA of the killer along with the killer's two small drops of blood on her clothing. A neighbor reported hearing a mortified scream sometime during the night, but no one in the house did.

The first room where some believed JonBenet was killed contained the mother’s paint brush suitcase that was used in the murder. The scream was believed to be heard from that room by only the neighbor, because there was a pipe that led to the outside, believing to amplify the volume of the scream. The third floor was also built to block out noise. There were theories JonBenet’s crushed skull came from a flashlight left on a table on the first floor, other’s believe it was done by the mother in the bathroom. There was speculation around the marks on her body coming from her brother’s train tracks (also in the basement) instead of the stun gun. After years of accusations and media allegations the family was proven innocent of the murder of JonBenet in 2008 by way of DNA testing. The accusation of the bedwetting incident with the mother (Pat getting mad behind the bedwetting and in a fit of anger slammed JonBenet up against the tub) is false.

The things we know is that JonBenet somehow ate the bowl of pineapples right before the murder and was brutally killed down in the basement. The mother adamantly denied feeding her the pineapples, but her fingerprints were found on the bowl. This can be easily refuted by her living inside the home and could have touched the bowl at any time earlier in the day.

This poses a question for me. JonBenet was not tased by the stun gun upstairs, because she ate the pineapples downstairs. This caused me to believe she had to know the killer to go down the stairs with him/her. It still poses the question why would she leave her room with a person who is not supposed to be in the home during that time? I needed a mother’s perspective and so I asked my sister. Why would a child go downstairs with someone who is not supposed to be in the home, even if she knew them? Her words were, “In any situation of a kidnapping, the perpetrator uses candy or food to get the child to come with them. The person could have easily told her the parents were gone and he/she there to look after her.” My sister also believes the perpetrator wore gloves and used the bowl of pineapples with milk to lure her downstairs out of the bedroom. So, this could be how and why JonBenet got downstairs and how she ate the bowl of pineapples. Once downstairs, it would have been easy to lure her into the basement. Once in the basement, the stun gun was used on JonBenet, and the intruder then attempted to place her body inside of the suitcase on the floor next to the window in the adjoined room next to the murder room. Again, there was a ransom note. So, I believe the killer’s plan was to get JonBenet out of the home. The theory goes, he/she couldn’t get the suitcase out of the window, or the body couldn’t fit, and so the plan was changed. Tests proved fabrics of JonBenet’s clothing were found in the suitcase. In this scenario, the intruder could have then removed her body from the suitcase and taken her to the “believed to be murder room.” JonBenet may have been awaken up by the sexual assault. JonBenet fought briefly and managed to utter a scream before the murderer responded by hitting her head against something (possibly the pipe). JonBenet bruised and bled internally. Still in a fit of anger, the perpetrator broke the paint brush in half and made the garrot to continue to silence her. When done, the body was covered with the blanket.

I remember the JonBenet Ramsey case. I was the same age as her nine-year-old brother. The impact it had on the world, due to her age, beauty, and her being in beauty pageants brought so many opinions and theories of what and why this happened to this baby. There is a lot I don’t want to repeat, due to the damaging nature of its content. There was a lot things I kept out of this story the sake of the parents and even her nine-year-old little. This was a tragedy, and the family were not even allowed to grieve. Furthermore, they were blamed, just for convenience, a shortage of workers, and their lack of experience when it came to murder investigations. Tragically the mother, Pat Ramsey, succumbed to cancer ten years after her daughter died.

Although the older half-brother stated, he believed the perpetrator could have been trespassing many times when the family vacated, from the property’s door being unsecure, and or easy access of breaking in, I believe the murderer is someone the family allowed inside of their home during the many parties they held. The predator is someone who was an obsessed fan, as well as child predator. He could have lived nearby, or within the state of Colorado. It’s only a matter of time before the killer is caught. I believe he/she is on the suspect’s list the brother has. Whether or not he/she is in the Criminal Justice Database, I don’t know. The killer should be. Due to the nature and violence of the crime, this doesn’t appear to be a one-time offense. This is also another reason the family was ruled out. Neither of the family in the home, has a criminal background, or could have done all of what was done to JonBenet.

In most cold case files, when DNA matches are made, (it can be twenty years later), the killer was interviewed, or one of the suspects.

The family is paying for all the DNA testing through a private detective agency. Due to expensive nature of the DNA testing, it could cost the family thousands of dollars just one person. Again, the Boulder Police are not working with the family to solve case. Although this case will be 25 years old in December, I believe it will be solved within the next couple of years. R.I.P JonBenet and Pat Ramsey.
