32-year-old Gypsy-Rose Blanchard, star of The Act, and Mommy Dead and Dearest took to YouTube to announce that she and 31-year-old Ken Urker are expecting their first child together. The pregnancy announcement was broadcast on YouTube on July 9th, 2024, where Gypsy said "I'm happy to announce that I am 11 weeks pregnant." The Gypsy Rose: Life After Lockup star said, "Ken are I are expecting our very first child come January of 2025. Blanchard went on to state, "This was not planned at all, it was completely unexpected, but we're both very excited to take on this new journey of parenthood." Later on in the video, Gypsy said, “I know that there are going to be people who feel like I’m not ready to be a mother, and I don’t know if anyone’s ready to be a mother. All the things that I wanted in a mother, I want to give to this baby. I am a mother now and I am happy, and I just want to be a good mother for my child. I want to be everything my mother wasn’t.”

Gypsy-Rose Blanchard opened up to PEOPLE in May regarding her relationship with Ken Urker and rekindling an old romance saying “Ken and I reconnected as friends. It wasn’t like, jump out of a marriage and then let me meet up with you, and boom, we’re in a relationship. We had kept a friendship for the longest time. He was in a relationship. I was with Ryan, and so we were living different lives with respect to our partners, a wish you the best type of thing.” This comes on the heels of her divorce from Ryan Anderson who she married while serving 10 years in prison for her role in the 2015 murder of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard noting Munchausen by Proxy and child abuse as the motive for her mother’s slaying. Blanchard’s co-defendant Nicholas Godejohn is serving life behind bars for his role in Blanchard’s murder. Blanchard further told PEOPLE “It wasn’t until I knew that my marriage was over that I was like, I would like to see you and let’s hang out because we never got to hang out before I was in prison. I would say that Ken is my first love because that’s when I honestly felt like a mature love. It wasn’t based on a fantasy. It was based on a connection that two people have for each other.”

Kristy Blanchard, Gypsy’s stepmother told PEOPLE in May that Ken Urker was moving to Louisiana to be with Gypsy. It was during that interview that Kristy admitted that she encouraged her stepdaughter to reunite with Ken saying “It’s all my fault, and I’ll gladly take the blame. I wanted them back together. I made that happen. Put the heat on me.” Kristy stated further “Gypsy will finally get her happily ever after. Ken’s moving to New Orleans to be with her soon. He found a place. Gypsy is so excited to have him closer. A love life theirs comes once in a lifetime.”

In December of 2023, Gypsy spoke to PEOPLE about how it would be a hard conversation to have to explain to her children why she was in prison. Gypsy said “We’re in love, but it’s hard because I’m going into a new life and I’m newly married, and I’m going to have kids one day, and I’m going to have to explain to my kids why their grandmother on mommy’s side isn’t around. And that’s going to be a tough conversation.” However, Gypsy maintains that one thing her children will never have to worry about is being harmed in the way that her mother harmed her, saying “Whenever someone says. Do you think that because of what you went through, you will do that to your kids? I said, you know what? Absolutely not. I have learned what not to do, I have no concerns about my parenting when it comes to that.”
