The real reason why writers write on Medium (must read before you start writing)

I created my account on Medium, knowing nothing about it, in January 2022. It said “write” on the top right side of my profile. I just clicked on it randomly and wrote an article about clothing, since I was interested in the clothing business at that time. Then it says “publish”, so I had to publish it. Honestly, I was like what does publish mean here, where is this going to publish, a publishing house? Lol. I literally had zero clue.

That was the only day in 2022, I made this profile and touched or wrote in it. An entire year passed but never touched my profile again, on a serious note, I didn’t know people actually earn from this platform. Seriously! I don’t trust those writers who say, “I didn’t come here for earning, I did it for passion”. Look! I call myself a passionate writer because I enjoy writing, and I think I enjoy it because I know it’s going to be fruitful in the future if God wills. I am going to earn money, of course, if I follow the right strategy.

If these famous writers with a huge following are told that they are not going to earn any more from Medium since they are doing it just for passion and they don’t care about dollars anyway. Trust me! You won’t see a single article posted by them ever again unless they start earning from it.

Now, in 2023 I decided to do a little bit of research about Medium to see why people write on it, and what it is. I did continue my writing journey on Upwork and wrote articles for my clients for the past year but didn’t know Medium could have helped me better. Right after realizing, Medium is a platform to earn for writers is probably the biggest reason you are reading this article right now, not just the biggest reason for me but for all the writers out there.

I would like to add, other reasons as well, why I chose a writing career on Medium. I was always a person who wanted to convey her message to the world, some thoughts that click in my mind and want others to know about it or incredible experiences of life that may inspire others for the better. I thought there is only one thing called YouTube where you can grow an audience, and connect with the outside world but honestly, I am a shy person.

Though I am a confident person, I love supporting people as long as they are right and love connecting with the world but I just don’t want to be on camera. I think I am scared of fame (as if I know I will be very famous, lol), probably because I have also seen famous people, and what fame has done to their hearts. I would like to add that I also hate compliments from unknown men about my face or beauty, maybe because I feel like I am being objectified and I am not an object (religious reasons included).

Then comes the hero, “Medium”. Isn’t it incredible? You share your ideas, you help people grow, you read other’s articles and they help you grow and you make an income too, earn by becoming a better version of yourself, which is probably a passive income for a lot of people but it is also a full-time income for some people, who used to earn nothing and then found Medium and definitely a side hustle for students to get themselves stationery (stop thinking about iPhone 14maxpro or MacBook, you are just a student yet, focus on studies, lol)

Jokes aside, I believe in supporting each other on Medium and vocal, and if you are a newbie struggling with being added to publications, followers, and views, I can guarantee everything gets better with time and you will soon reach your goal and become an extraordinary wordsmith.
